If you want to see my butt get kicked...you are in for a special treat today.
I am doing a workout that I do every single Memorial Day. This workout is named Murph, it is named after Lt. Michael Murphy who is a Navy Seal that was killed in action.
I didn’t know anything about crossfit until I deployed back in 2005. If you’ve heard of Crossfit, you’ve heard that it has blown up, but back then it was fairly new. There were only 2-3 guys that I knew in Iraq doing it. A buddy of mine introduced me to it. But while we were deployed we started doing these ‘hero’ workouts. They are all named after military personnel, first responders, those that sacrificed their life for the greater good.
So I was still in Iraq when the Murph workout came out, I was already doing crossfit so I felt like I had to do it. The funny thing about this workout, is that it is the first workout that ever made me puke. 🤮 It was miserable. At that time I was 28-29 years old and probable in the best shape of my life and it still kicked my butt.
I still do this workout every year on Memorial Day. 🏃♂️ This year I am doing it for the first time in Nashville. My friend Grant is going to join me and we will video the whole thing for you. 🏃♂️
Checking in at the halfway point, I am realizing how out of shape I am! 🏃♂️
I finished Murph in under an hour but this year was my longest time ever. 😩 I am ok with that!
The whole point of this is what this day is about for me and for every other service member out there. Just remembering, never forgetting all of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. All of the people out there that do this without looking for a thank you. They do it because this is a country that they love. That means a lot to me and I hope it means a lot to you too.
Have you tried the Murph yet? This is what the Murph hero workout includes: 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, 1 mile run. Give it a go, maybe do a half Murph.
If you have done the Murph before, let me know - and share with me your best time.
