'There's No Place Like Home'
was recorded in 2007.
A labour of love, it grew from the passionate enthusiasm of
the members of Cork South Parish Legion of Mary Old Folks Club
who came together to form the Swinging 60s Choir and who were joined by MuddyLee in a unique, voluntary theatrical music project.
'There's No Place Like Home' celebrates Cork's rich colourful heritage, tradition & culture.
From the Coal Quay Shawlies and Echo Boys to Cork's famed
tripe and drisheen, crubeens, bodice and cabbage to its pawnshops, its welcoming people and its world famous Shandon
Steeple that proudly gazes over her flock like a mother hen and whose chime is still as fresh as the first time it echoed across the beautiful every flowing waters of the River Lee.
And it's clear to hear as you listen to MuddyLee & The Swinging 60s Choir that the spirit of our Senior Citizens is as fresh and in
tune and as full of life as ever.
Performed and recorded live in the South Parish Community Centre, Sawmill Street, Cork, the magical happy fun songs and music of the debut album: 'There's No Place Like Home' are drawn from a wellspring of interviews conducted by Richard T. Cooke over a 30 year period with Corkonians of all ages and from all walks of life.
These original songs and music evoke a rainbow of moods and emotions, capturing the very essence of the life and times of these wonderful Corkonians and their ancestors whose eloquent
stories ripple and sparkle through each song.
This collection of work reflects the wholesome spirit of the Senior Citizens in our community who continue to contribute on a daily basis not alone to their children and grandchildren but to the wider community.
This special album is a heartfelt musical monument to them. They are our living breathing history, tradition, culture.
Liz O'Donovan, Chairperson & Organiser of the Cork South Parish Legion of Mary Old Folks Club wishes to thank the following
