Salt is present in vast quantities in seawater, where it is the main mineral constituent. The open ocean has about 35 grams (1.2 oz) of solids per litre, a salinity of 3.5%. Salt is essential for life in general, and saltiness is one of the basic human tastes. Salt is one of the oldest and most ubiquitous food seasonings, and salting is an important method of food preservation. Some of the earliest evidence of salt processing dates to around 8,000 years ago, when people living in the area of present-day Romania boiled spring water to extract salts; a salt-works in China dates to approximately the same period. Salt was also prized by the ancient Hebrews, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Hittites, Egyptians, and the Indians. Salt became an important article of trade and was transported by boat across the Mediterranean Sea, along specially built salt roads, and across the Sahara on camel caravans. The scarcity and universal need for salt have led nations to go to war over it and use it to raise tax revenues. Salt is used in religious ceremonies and has other cultural significance. Salt is processed from salt mines, and by the evaporation of seawater (sea salt) and mineral-rich spring water in shallow pools. Its major industrial products are caustic soda and chlorine; salt is used in many industrial processes including the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride, plastics, paper pulp and many other products. Of the annual global production of around two hundred million tonnes of salt, only about 6% is used for human consumption. Other uses include water conditioning processes, de-icing highways, and agricultural use. Edible salt is sold in forms such as sea salt and table salt which usually contains an anti-caking agent and may be iodised to prevent iodine deficiency. As well as its use in cooking and at the table, salt is present in many processed foods. Sodium is an essential nutrient for human health via its role as an electrolyte and osmotic solute. Excessive salt consumption may increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension, in children and adults. Such health effects of salt have long been studied. Accordingly, numerous world health associations and experts in developed countries recommend reducing consumption of popular salty foods. The World Health Organization recommends that adults should consume less than 2,000 mg of sodium, equivalent to 5 grams of salt per day. sea salf vs table salt
Sea salt is obtained directly through the evaporation of seawater. It is not processed, Table salt, on the other hand, is mined from salt deposits and then processed to give it a fine texture.. Processing strips table salt of any minerals it may have contained, and additives are also usually incorporated to prevent clumping or caking.

What's the Difference Between Kosher Salt, Table Salt, and Sea Salt?
Click here to watch more kitchen tips: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnbzopdwFrnbw7lMXc3_Ry36bEucTzGdv What are the different types of salt, and how do their characteristics differ? What distinguishes one salt from another is texture, shape, and mineral content. These qualities can affect how a salt tastes as well as how it interacts with other foods. How Much Salt Is in That Teaspoon? Given its coarser crystal structure, kosher salt packs a lot less into each teaspoon when compared to table salt. In fact, even the volume measurements between the two major brands of kosher salt—Morton and Diamond Crystal—vary significantly. Here's how they measure up: 1 teaspoon table salt = 1 1/2 teaspoons Morton kosher salt = 2 teaspoons Diamond Crystal kosher salt TABLE SALT Table salt, also known as common salt, consists of tiny, uniformly shaped crystals created during rapid vacuum evaporation. It usually includes anti-caking agents that help it pour smoothly. HOW WE USE IT: Fine-grain table salt dissolves easily, making it our go-to for most applications, both sweet and savory. SHOPPING TIP: Avoid iodized salt, which can impart a subtle chemical flavor. Kosher Salt Coarse-grain kosher salt is raked during the evaporation process to yield flaky crystals originally used for koshering meat. Unlike table salt, kosher salt doesn’t contain any additives. HOW WE USE IT: Kosher salt is our top choice for seasoning meat. The large grains distribute easily and cling well to the meat’s surfaces. SHOPPING TIP: The two major brands of kosher salt—Morton and Diamond Crystal—work equally well; however, their crystal sizes differ considerably (see below), and this makes a difference when measuring by volume. Sea Salt Sea salt is the product of seawater evaporation—a time-consuming, expensive process that yields irregularly shaped, mineral-rich flakes that vary in color but only slightly in flavor. HOW WE USE IT: Don’t bother cooking with pricey sea salt; we’ve found that mixed into food, it doesn’t taste any different than table salt. Instead, we use it as a “finishing salt,” where its delicate crunch stands out. SHOPPING TIP: Texture—not exotic provenance—is the main consideration. Look for brands boasting large, flaky crystals such as Maldon Sea Salt. Does Real Salt have the iodine I need?
Real Salt does contain naturally-occurring iodine, but not enough to satisfy the recommended daily allowance of 150 micrograms. Real Salt doesn’t provide the recommended daily allowance of protein, either. Or fat. Because nature intended salt to provide our bodies with sodium chloride and trace minerals! So, instead of using chemically-processed, unhealthy salt in order to get iodine, we like to stick with Real Salt and get naturally occurring iodine from other delicious sources like kelp, yogurt, eggs, strawberries, and mozzarella cheese. http://www.realsalt.com/ --- Like Real Salt on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/realsalt Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/redmondrealsalt/ Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/realsalt

Pink Himalayan Salt and Why It's a Better Option
Pink Himalayan salt is a relatively new type of rock salt alternative to table salt varieties, gaining only recent popularity in the last decade or so. Sometimes called "pink salt", "crystal salt" or Himalayan sea salt, it is made from ancient salt deposits that have been preserved within the earth for millions of years. Most brands originate from the foothill regions of northern Pakistan, an area along the Salt Range where deep sedimentary salts are located. Considered one of the purest forms of salt available, unexposed to environment pollutants, it is commonly used today as a finely ground salt, but larger crystals or coarse pebbles can also be used as a salt water solution or "sole." Sea Salt is Harmful To Your Health Than Table Salt - Salt Dangerous For Health
Pass The Sea Salt? Table salt vs. sea salt…is there really a difference? This is a question that is often raised and more often than not the “informed” conclusion is that there is no difference. In fact, many “experts” have concluded that sea salt is actually more harmful to your health than table salt! One of the explanations is that since sea salt is touted as being “healthy” for you, people tend to eat more of it. The “experts” further claim that the so-called sea salt fraud is further compounded by the fact that sea salt is more expensive. And doesn’t “health food” always carry a greater price tag? So what should you believe? As you ponder the question of whether to use table salt or sea salt, let’s look at some vital information that these “experts” failed to report. Table salt comes from the ocean but is stripped of all nutrition. It has become nothing more than processed sodium chloride fortified with synthetic iodine as well as food additives known as anti-caking agents. These anti-caking agents keep the salt from clumping so that it pours out of the saltshaker with greater ease. . . . . . . I am using this tool to viral videos. How to grow beautiful crystals of salt - do your chemical experiment!
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thoisoi2 Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/Thoisoi?ty=h Music: http://audiomicro.com Interesting chemical experiments: http://www.m.chemicum.com/ Hello everyone, today we'll be growing beautiful single crystals. Crystals can be grown from almost any salt, however, for a better result I suggest using the copper sulfate one. Of course, you may also use an ordinary table salt for growing the crystals. The very first thing you should do before you'll start growing a crystal is to make a growing seed. Seed is a small crystal that is immersed in the solution, and that will grow there. It should be about the size of a pea. At first, lets take a glass and pour there a third or a half of the amount of a salt. Next, pour some hot water into the cup and stir it all. If you've added less, then you'll need to keep adding salt until it's no longer dissolvable. And after the salt is no longer dissolving and the solution become saturated it must now be filtered to get rid of various impurities. After filtration, add to the bottom of the glass a little copper sulfate and leave this glass for a few days to let the crystals form. After a day or so you should find at the bottom of the glass that there's a lot of beautiful crystals has been formed, about the size of a pea. Now we merge the solution into another cup, to pick open interlocked crystal mass. Take any knife or any other sharp tool and drill the crystal mass. Once we've scratched it all, pour everything into a bowl. Choose the smoothest and large crystal. Also, I advise you not to take the copper sulfate with your bare hands, it is better to do it with gloves on. Once we've chosen the largest crystal, it must be now tied to a thread. To do this, I came up with an interesting system in which you can conveniently change the height of the crystal. Also with this system the cup is protected from dust. We hung the crystal to a cup, and now all we do is wait. Growing crystals requires a lot of time and patience. When I was doing it before I was also growing a crystal out of mixture of potassium chloride and sodium chloride in parallel with making the crystal of copper sulfate. If you want to get a very smooth and a beautiful single crystal, you'll need to filter the solution every two weeks to maintain its cleanliness. If the solution is dirty, a crooked crystal will grow and you'll get polycrystal instead of that single crystal we want. Polycrystal is when a lot of crystals fused together. In this video, I will teach you how to grow crystals of salt at home. Growing crystals is very interesting and exciting hobby. Benefits Of Sea Salt | Sea Salt vs Table Salt | Natural Treatment & Home remedies
Sea Salt Vs Table Salt! Which Should You Use? Benefits Of Sea Salt With all the varieties of sea salt floating around the market, it has become a popular household name. From reality shows like Chopped to Cupcake Wars, sea salt is a common, important ingredient. Touted for it’s all ‘natural quality’ everyone seems to prefer sea salt to iodized salt! Ok, I am not slamming sea salt since I use it myself, but while the reputation of sea salt is thriving, table salt seems to have taken a back seat. Here’s the problem: Our bodies need iodine and a deficiency can lead to hypothyrodism and other thyroid related problems. Unless you’re eating food high in iodine like sea weed, certain fish etc in high quantities you’re can get iodine deficient. So, incorporating some table salt also known as iodized salt in your lifestyle is beneficial. If you really love sea salt (and who doesn’t?), you can use both sea salt and iodized salt in your cooking. This keeps us sea salt satisfied and thyroid healthy. The difference between sea salt and table/iodized salt Sea salt is produced through evaporation of ocean water or water from saltwater lakes, usually with little processing. Hence it is able to retain more flavor, trace elements and color. Table salt is usually mined from underground salt deposits and is more processed. It also has an additive to prevent clumping and has iodine added to it. They both however have the same amount of sodium. Pros and cons of sea salt vs. iodized salt Sea salt is aesthetically pleasing. Coarse in texture it is very versatile and good to create culinary creations. It is less processed and is more alkaline when compared to iodized salt. It has some trace elements and minerals. Some varieties of sea salt like pink Himalayan salt are said to be healing in nature and help detoxify the body of impurities. On the other hand most types of sea salt contain none or very little iodine and it is usually more expensive than table or iodized salt. Iodized salt, also known as table salt, is fortified with iodine, which is essential for optimum thyroid function. Most people do not get enough iodine in their diet through foods; hence table salt provides an easy means to getting this essential nutrient. Iodized salt can improve Brain Function due to the fact that it provides iodine. An iodine deficiency can lower the IQ by as much as 15 points. Those with depression and anxiety can benefit from sufficient iodine. Iodized salt can help to ensure that you are getting enough iodine to prevent these emotional feelings from occurring. Iodized salt can also help with weight loss. Underactive thyroid has also been linked to obesity and getting enough iodine in your diet may be the solution to help some people shed weight. To get some tips on naturally maintaining a healthy thyroid, click here. In general a balanced healthy diet with less sodium is beneficial to people, but when you choose to use salt, choose wisely and use a mix of both iodized table salt and sea salt. Should You Use Iodized Salt - Healthy Shoot
Should You Use Iodized Salt - Healthy Shoot There’s a good chance you’ll spot a box of iodized salt in any kitchen pantry. While it’s a dietary staple in many households, there’s a lot of confusion about what iodized salt actually is and whether or not it’s a necessary part of the diet. This article explores how iodized salt may affect your health and whether or not you should be using it. Iodine Is an Important Mineral Iodine is a trace mineral commonly found in seafood, dairy products, grains and eggs. In many countries, it’s also combined with table salt to help prevent iodine deficiency. Your thyroid gland uses iodine to produce thyroid hormones, which aid in tissue repair, regulate metabolism and promote proper growth and development. Thyroid hormones also play a direct role in the control of body temperature, blood pressure and heart rate. In addition to its essential role in thyroid health, iodine may play a central role in several other aspects of your health. For example, test-tube and animal studies suggest that it may directly impact the function of your immune system. Salt Lamps: REAL or BS?
SUBSCRIBE!: http://bit.ly/1G97GmA SHARE THIS VIDEO: https://youtu.be/dySoNCzsX5Q This question came in from my Nickipedia email [email protected], Willette Lewis asked the below Do the Himalayan salt lamps help you sleep and help with the air or did I just buy some really good cooking salt? Here’s what I found. Himalayan salt lamps are very interesting, first off there are in fact no salt mines in the Himalayas, which should give you an indication on how these giant salt chunks are more marketing than science. Most of the salt rocks are coming from Poland, Pakastian and India at least 190 miles from the actual Himalayas. This particular salt is made from 98% sodium chloride (or table salt) and 2 % other minerals with one of them being Iron Oxide (fancy word rust) which gives it the really cool pink color. After researching online I found that there are a ton of claims about Himalayan salt lamps. Some of these include 1) Neutralizing electromagnetic radiation 2) Purifying the air 3) Increasing energy levels 4) Helping you sleep better 5) Reducing stress 6) Doing your taxes The majority of these claims are rooted in positive and negative ions…so I shall explain The idea is that positive ions from electromagnetic radiation, which come from things, like your cell phone, TV, thunderstorms and cosmic waves from outer space are causing your body harm. In order to stop this harm we must neutralize the positive ions with negative ions, just like how antioxidants neutralize free radicals. Salt lamps are claiming to emit negative ions one a heat source like a light bulb is applied, however there is no empirical, statistical or scientific proof this is happening…at all. Also, to truly neutralize positive ion being emitted from electromagnetic radiation we would have to wrap ourselves a thick layer lead, like chainmail armor made of lead… which would be uncomfortable and probably end up causing lead poisoning. So that’s a no-go. The negative ion emission is also why salt lamps claim to increase energy levels, help you sleep better and reduce stress, but since they don’t emit negative ions, well these claims don’t add up to much. The other claim is that the salt lamps are purifying the air, which is said to be done through hygroscopy. This is a fancy word for “absorbing moisture”. The idea is that action of absorbing water molecules with contaminants inside of them will purify the air. While salt does have hygroscopic properties so does sugar, cotton, caramel, honey, sulfuric acid, ethanol (vodka), and…regular old table salt. So would it be fair to say your cotton shirt or salt lick for deer chilling on your coffee table is providing the same benefit? Adding to this there is no scientific data or evidence that a huge chunk of rock salt is particularly good at using hygroscopic properties to filter the air. Under the same justification methodology your couch is pulling the equivalent contaminated moisture out of the air… but moisture in the air isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. This is in fact why we install humidifiers during the cold and dry months. An article from the Mayo Clinic states :Increased humidity may ease breathing in children and adults who have asthma or allergies, especially during a respiratory infection such as a cold But don’t toss your pink table salt lamp quite yet! Research published in the journal of consumer psychology states that the intensity of light is directly related to degree of a person’s emotional response. What this means is that if your salt lamp is providing a warm soft glow this type of light can reduce the intensity of high stress emotions leading to a feeling of relaxation and calm. Himalayan Salt vs Table Salt. Which Salt is Healthier?
http://facebook.com/coachlana Common table salt is empty of nutritional value. After processing, salt is mostly sodium chloride, an unnatural chemical type of salt that our body actually sees as foreign and toxic. It is lacking important minerals that make salt good for us. Commonly sold table salt or chemical table salt is composed of about 97% sodium chloride and 3% chemicals like iodine, absorbents, and sugar. Table salt is also dried at more than 1,200° Fahrenheit and this changes naturally-occurring salt's structure. Processed salt crystals are completely isolated from one another. In order for our body to metabolize chemical table salt, it must waste a lot of energy trying to keep the body at the necessary fluid balance. This creates an unnecessary burden on the elimination systems in the body. When we ingest table salt, our body cannot dispose of it in a natural, healthy way. Water is also removed from other cells in the system in an attempt to neutralize the unnatural sodium chloride. For each gram of table salt that your system cannot process, your body will use over twenty times the amount of cellular water to neutralize the sodium chloride in the chemically-treated salt. This can lead to water retention, cellulite, rheumatism, arthritis, gout, high blood pressure, inflammation of the tissues, as well as kidney and gallbladder stones. Himalayan crystal salt is far superior to traditional iodized salt which is extremely toxic. Himalayan salt is millions of years old. It is a pure form of salt, untouched by many of the toxins and pollutants that are common in other forms of ocean salt or sea salt. Himalayan Crystal Salt contains the same 84 natural minerals and elements found in the human body. This crystal form of salt has also been maturing over the past 250 million years under intense tectonic pressure, creating an environment of zero exposure to toxins and impurities. Its minerals exist in a colloidal form, meaning that they are tiny enough for our cells to easily absorb them. The health benefits of using natural Himalayan Crystal Salt may include: Encouraging blood sugar health Lowering incidence of sinus problems Reducing muscle cramps Increasing bone strength Naturally promoting healthy sleep patterns Controlling the water levels within the body, regulating them for proper functioning Promoting stable pH balance in the cells, including the brain. Aiding in reducing the common signs of aging Promoting the increased absorption of food within the intestinal tract Aiding vascular health Supporting healthy respiratory function Creating a healthy libido Reduces chances of developing rheumatism, arthritis and gout, when compared to common chemically-treated salt Reduces chances of developing kidney and gall bladder stones, when compared to common chemically-treated salt Himalayan crystal salt is becoming more common and is a wonderful alternative to chemical table salt. Add a pinch to your water and cook with it often. http://facebook.com/coachlana Resource: http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/himalayan-crystal-salt-benefits/

How to Make Bismuth Crystals
Bismuth ingots can be purchased here (this is an affiliate link): http://ebay.to/1iwwqji Bismuth is non-toxic and has a number of very interesting properties. For best results I recommend using at least 4 or 5 pounds of bismuth for the surface crystallization method demonstrated in the video. The deeper the pool of bismuth is in the pan the better, because the crystals will have extra room to grow before they touch the bottom. The more you use the more impressive your results will be. Some of you that are familiar with other forms of crystal formation may be thinking I gave bad advice when I state in the video that you can move the crystals as they grow. Usual crystal growth requires a very still solution with no movement, and a very slow cool down period. I did quite a lot of experimenting with this method and found that bismuth does not behave quite the same way. Once the crystals have begun forming it does not seem to matter if they are moved so long as they remain submerged. Further structured growth happens regardless of disturbance once there is a point to nucleate from. You may also notice that I was not wearing gloves for a portion of the video, that was foolish of me. I was wearing eye protection the entire time. Leather gloves (not synthetic!) and lab goggles should always be worn in case of splashes or spills. If you would like to skip the process of making your own crystals, you can buy them already made here (another affiliate link): http://ebay.to/1BIvj2C Music: Minimal - Soundaround -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Check out my latest video: "How To View Invisible Air Currents With Lasers" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K94Cc21KEIA -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Israeli researchers say they believe this to be the world's longest salt cave, a network of twisting passageways at the southern tip of the Dead Sea. (AP Photo/Ariel Schalit) MOUNT SODOM, ISRAEL (AP) - Israeli researchers said Thursday they have surveyed what they now believe to be the world's longest salt cave, a network of twisting passageways at the southern tip of the Dead Sea. A recently completed survey of the Malham Cave determined the labyrinthine cavern stretches more than 10 kilometers (6 miles) in length. That puts it well ahead of Iran's Namakdan Cave, previously thought to be the longest salt cave. The survey was conducted by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a collection of Israeli, Bulgarian and international volunteers. Boaz Langford, a researcher at the university's Caves Research Center, and Antoniya Vlaykova, a Bulgarian cave explorer from the European Speleological Federation, headed the expedition. "What's unique about this cave, as opposed to other salt caves in the world, is that it's the longest in the world," Langford said, resting in a chamber of the cave dubbed the "Wedding Hall" for its salt stalactites. A recently completed survey of the cave determined the labyrinthine cavern stretches more than 10 kilometers (six miles) in length. (AP Photo/Ariel Schalit) Langford and Vlaykova said they plan to publish the complete map of the cave in a professional publication in the coming months. There is no official record for the longest salt cave, and such designations are generally decided by consensus among cave researchers after an underground chamber is mapped and published. Namakdan, which is about 6 kilometers (4 miles) in length, was identified as the longest salt cave after a study by Czech and Iranian scientists in 2006. Salt caves are unusual and rare geological features. Because salt is highly water soluble, large salt deposits do not normally survive long on the surface. Only a handful of salt caves are larger than a kilometer (half a mile) in length. Salt caves tend to only exist in highly arid regions, like the area around the Dead Sea, which is located at the lowest point on earth and is too salty to support animal life. Over millions of years, successive flooding of the deep depression lay down thick layers of salt. "The salt layers are squeezed out from the sub-surface, where they are deposited a few kilometers underground, and while being squeezed out they form a mountain, which is rising still today, at a rate of about one centimeter per year," said Amos Frumkin, a Hebrew University geologist who has studied the cave for decades. mount sodom pillar of salt, mount sodom map, mount sodom salt caves, lot's wife, sodom and gomorrah, sodom and gomorrah map, lot's wife looking back, hwagwan, Sodom and Gomorrah PROOF,

THE THORIUM PROBLEM - Manufacturing & energy sector hobbled by thorium
Thorium, Rare Earth Elements [REE] and Molten Salt Reactors [MSR] covered in brand-new book by Victoria Bruce! https://www.amazon.com/Sellout-Washington-Americas-Technological-Fight-ebook/dp/B06WVPDF5N/ John Kutsch of Thorium Energy Alliance and Jim Kennedy of ThREE Consulting review the hazards maintaining U.S. current thorium policy. Heavy Rare Earth Element mining is impeded. Energy sector innovation is stifled. Thorium is less dangerous, less radioactive, and less easily metabolized than many elements we are exposed to on a daily basis. Current regulation assists China's capture of high-tech manufacturing sector. Current regulation protects incumbent U.S. [light] rare earth producers who DISPOSE of thorium and valuable heavy rare earths in tailing ponds. Current regulation does NOT facilitate growth of U.S. economy. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle recognize reform is needed. No one is willing to introduce legislation to address the thorium problem. China continues to capture high-tech manufacturing jobs. U.S. private corporations are unable to pursue thorium an an energy resource. THE THORIUM PROBLEM was delivered at SME - Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration on Feb 20th 2012 [2012-02-20] in Seattle.
