Sunkoshi sand mining may invite disaster in Nepal
The life of the people around Sunkoshi... literally a goldmine they used to call it. In the earlier times the sand bank used to proliferate with tiny chunk of gold and the itself bears that resemblance. One might need to forgo so many things if we try to understand the dire situation of living... Have we been able to create alternatives employment here. Do not blame the people, we should blame the who lets the people out of the country in hordes.... ! But I would not like to express it though but the harsh reality is .....................................................................SAND MINING has a big disaster lurking in the dark. The crevasses might wipe out the hillocks one day.... all waiting for inevitable disaster...! hope it does not happen...!!

Bernadette Smith - A Hidden History of Stockton Bight
Bernadette Smith - A Hidden History of Stockton Bight was delivered on Friday 2 December 2011 at the Radical Newcastle Colloquium hosted by the University Gallery. This all day event, featured historians, activists, public intellectuals and the wider community in examining and discussing a broad array of topics from sex and abortion to radical clergy, environmental activism and politics. And yes, the famous Laman Street Figs were also on the agenda. Speakers included noted Australian historian Professor Ann Curthoys (University of Sydney), the first Green elected to public office in NSW, and Laman Street figs activist, John Sutton, and sociologist and linguist, Dr Jim Wafer. 'Radical Newcastle' is an important new project built around partnerships between the University of Newcastle and the local community. This project aims to recover the radical underbelly and often submerged dimensions of Newcastle history and to connect that past with contemporary activist movements in the Hunter region. MB GeoTour 36 – Geology: The Field Observation Process – Chasing the Ordovician ...
MB GeoTour 36 – Geology: The Field Observation Process – Chasing the Ordovician Winnipeg Formation 2014 An exposure of Ordovician Winnipeg Formation silica sand is situated at the base of a Pleistocene gravel pit, located southeast of Seymourville (10-25-25-8E1, NTS 62P1NW; NAD 83, Zone 14U, 685169E, 5671480N). Summary An exposure of Ordovician Winnipeg Formation silica sand is situated at the base of a Pleistocene gravel pit, located southeast of Seymourville. The outcrop shows that the Winnipeg Formation appears to be laterally continuous to the southeast, for several kilometres away from the exposure at MB GeoTour 35. The area of the silica sand exposed at this location was described by Watson (1985). This video shows Ordovician Winnipeg Formation beneath Pleistocene glacial till in a gravel pit southeast of Seymourville. Jim can be seen tracing the sand at this location, using the process of field observation; and then correlating the exposure to GeoTour 35, located several kilometers away to the northwest. According to Watson (1985, p. 23) a drill hole in the gravel pit penetrated an additional 26.8 m of sandstone, averaging 95.22% silica. Based upon drilling of two holes in the area south of Seymourville and an altimeter survey, Watson (1985, p. 23 estimated that 600 million tonnes of silica sand averaging 95% SiO2 is present over an 1800 ha area. EXPO – Magic of the White City (Narrated by Gene Wilder)
Narrated by Gene Wilder, EXPO – Magic of the White City brings the Chicago World’s Fair to life. Experience the world of 1893 through a cinematic visit to Chicago’s Columbian Exposition. Subscribe for more great documentaries! Nearly 28 million people visited the Fair. Dubbed the “White City,” it inspired future innovators like Henry Ford and Frank Lloyd Wright, unveiled the Ferris Wheel and Cracker Jack®, and, in many ways, marked the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the era’s greatest achievements in science, technology and culture were unveiled there. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famous for his design of New York City’s Central Park, and constructed under the supervision of Daniel Burnham. The Fair was an engineering marvel. On opening day, President Grover Cleveland depressed a golden telegraph key which sent the first courses of electricity throughout the Fair powering fountains, machines, electric railways and thousands of lights. It was the first use of electricity on such a massive scale. In addition, fairgoers enjoyed the Midway Plaisance where a one-mile boulevard of fun offered camel riding and guilty pleasures such as belly dancing, street fighting and beer drinking. Against the backdrop of 1893’s troubles with workers’ rights, prejudice, discrimination and corruption, the World’s Columbian Exposition cast a brief ray of hope for the future of humanity. Filmed in spectacular High-Definition, EXPO – Magic of the White City immerses viewers in one of the world’s biggest extravaganzas and one of the most unforgettable events in American history. There will never be another event like it… or will there?

Auburn Coach Wife Kristi Malzahn Agrees with Match & eHarmony: Men are Jerks
My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling "Bravo!" in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.) Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality. Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely. And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)
