CRKT Ripple: Knife Review

Buy it here: http://shrsl.com/uwxw The Ken Onion Designed CRKT Ripple is an innovative, attractive, and ergonomic knife that is well out of my price range... However, the Walmart version of the knife sacrifices little in looks, ergos, and function while being WAY more affordable. I really like this knife! Crkt ripple 400kxp vs Crkt ripple k415kxp

06:52
This is a comparison between the Walmart crkt ripple against the more expensive smaller framelock version CRKT 400KXP Ken Onion Ripple 2, Charcoal Handles, PlainEdge. In their first collaboration, Ken Onion and CRKT introduce their Ripple series of folding frame locks with premium stainless steel build and a stiction-free IKBS ball-bearing pivot. This knife is noteworthy for its exceptional manufacturing quality, premium stainless steel build, plus an almost unbelievable silky smooth and fast opening action thanks to the use of the IKBS internal knife ball bearing system. The modified drop point blade has a high hollow grind, swedged top edge, a high satin finish and Razor-Sharp cutting edge. Steel is premium Acuto, stainless, noted for its high chromium and molybdenum content and hardness of 59-60 HRC. It is instantly opened by pressing the blade flipper with either hand. For safety while closed, the blade has a ball detent. Even the best conventional blade pivot bearings have some degree of friction which resists initial movement, or "stiction." In contrast, the Ripple blade opening action is almost friction-free due to the IKBS ball bearing system. This innovative and simple design places eight uncaged ball bearings on each side of the blade pivot in races which are machined into the stainless steel handle. It is compact and adjustable at the blade pivot screw if ever needed. Not only is opening and closing exceptionally smooth, the IKBS system is durable and requires little maintenance, and yields a folder with great rigidity and no blade play. This Ripple models are frame lock open build knives with stainless steel frames. In typical Ken Onion attention to detail, the frame lock does not create an unsightly gap in the right frame, but its cut is neatly integrated into the grip design of the frame, which is CNC machined with a complex 'ripple' textured pattern plus 44 small lightening holes. The Ripple KX400 receives a black titanium nitride coating, which we then hand buff to give a pocket worn look, that is to lightly reveal the underlying stainless steel on the high points. The Ripple BX400 achieves the same effect, but with a blue titanium nitride finish. Both models feature a removable stainless steel mirror polished pocket clip, high-mounted, and also with small CNC-drilled holes. This knife combines brilliant design, custom knife quality, and advanced manufacturing technology. Specifications Blade Length: 2.70" Overall Length: 6.50" Weight: 2.3 oz. CRKT and noted knife designer Ken Onion are proud to introduce the Aluminum Ripple™ K415KXP folding edc knife. The Ripple is noteworthy for its exceptional manufacturing quality, plus an almost unbelievable silky smooth and fast opening action thanks to the use of the IKBS internal knife ball-bearing system. The modified drop point blade has a high hollow grind, swedged top edge, and a high satin finish. Blade Steel is 8CR14Mov high carbon stainless steel with an HRC rating of 57-59. The blade is instantly opened by pressing the blade flipper with either hand. For safety while closed, the blade has a ball detent. Even the best conventional blade pivot bearings have some degree of friction which resists initial movement, or "stiction." In contrast, the Ripple blade opening action is almost friction-free due to the IKBS ball-bearing system. This innovative and simple design places ball bearings built into the stainless pivot screw. It is compact and adjustable at the blade pivot screw if ever needed. Not only is opening and closing exceptionally smooth, the IKBS system is durable and requires little maintenance, and yields a folder with great rigidity and no blade play. The Ripple K415KXP model has locking liner. In typical Ken Onion attention to detail, the aluminum handles are CNC machined with over 40 lightening holes and small ripples. The handles are then hard anodized black and then the top of the ripples are polished off to create a pocket worn finish. Ken Onion designed the stainless steel clip so it tucks away nicely in your pocket for every day carry and easy access. This knife combines brilliant design, custom knife quality, and advanced manufacturing technology in true Ken Onion fashion. Knife Review: CRKT Ripple "Wal Mart Edition" K415KXPC

23:57
My thoughts and views on the CRKT Ripple K415KXPC folding knife. Weighing only 2.5 oz, CRKT's new low-cost Ripple gives a heck of a lot of bang-for-your-buck, and won't drag your pocket down once it's there. Aluminum handle scales are both light and sturdy and the nested steel liners keep things slim and efficient. Add to that CRKT's IKBS ball bearing pivot system and you've got a lightning-fast folder that might almost be mistaken for an assisted-opener! While I'm quite satisfied with most aspects of the knife, I have a couple small issues that keep it from being an instant classic for me: The single position pocket clip is needlessly limiting, and where it sits may cause the knife to open accidentally on occasion, as it did for me (though only once). I also wish Mr. Onion had forgone the slight thumb ramp at the base of the blade's spine, but this is a small gripe and one that boils down to personal preference rather than any sort of design flaw. The blade shape is useful and elegant, and looks fantastic as well. The factory edge was extremely sharp and while the edge bevels were a little less than uniform from one side to the other, the price point at which the Ripple resides more than makes up for any small fit and finish issues. CRKT really seems to be making an effort to better compete with their contemporaries, and the Ripple serves as evidence of this push for a bigger slice of the folding knife market. It's a nice step toward evolving and diversifying their folding knife catalog and I'm eager to see what they'll do next. If the small issues mentioned in the video don't sound like deal breakers to you, then definitely give the CRKT Ripple your consideration. Thanks for watching! All content by ItsAWonderfulKnife. Ken Onion CRKT Ripple $39.99 LINER Lock Version

05:02
Walking around Walmart I ran into this and had to get it. IKBS buttery smooth. At 1/3 the price I'd say it's a great deal IF you are just interested in the Ken Onion design and ball bearing pivot! Material and finish is definitely not as good as the $125 Ripple, you get what you pay for, but this is still a good knife that will hold an edge well.

CRKT Ripple Overview (walmart version)

What a great value, $30bucks for this? yes sir. its about a 3.5 blade length in a feather weight knife. Ergonomic and pocket friendly. Compared to the $80 frame lock version this is actually more comfortable in the hand because its a hair wider. It doesnt feel quite as "quality" though. Still amazing value and deal for $30.

The knife gets its name from the distinct relief on the surface of the handle. The whole thing is black anodized and has a pocket worn finish to bring out the high points on the texture. The texture adds positive grip while the holes cut weight off the already light-weight design. http://www.ikbsknifetech.com/50/index.html http://www.youtube.com/user/wcopeland38

My first video showcasing this knife has accumulated the most amount of hits out of all my knife reviews so that's why I wanted to showcase it again in better clarity. CRKT Ripple

10:24
The Ripple was created as a collaboration between Cutlery Hall of Fame knife maker Ken Onion and CRKT. The Ripple is the first collaboration between Onion and CRKT but shows promise for future works together. The Ripple was designed after a building that Onion had seen. He wanted to create a gentlemens tactical knife that represented the same strength and elegance that the building did. I enjoy every knife that Ken Onion designs and the Ripple is no different. With a light carry weight, small form factor and razor sharp edge it is a great companion or any EDC task. I have been extremely happy with the Ripple as my EDC and recommend this knife to any one who is interested. Thanks for watching.

From there I found a local knife maker named Stan Fujisaka and begged him to teach me. I made my first knife in November 1991 and have continued the craft since. While recovering from back surgery in 1996, I decided to try to design a folder that was easier to manipulate than what was available, and not a switchblade. The result was the first assisted opening knife I called "Speed Safe" After finding some information on the whole patent process and consultation from an attorney, I got my first patent, creating a whole new category of knives between manual and auto."

This is a review of my CRKT Ripple by Ken Onion. I got this knife indirectly as a Christmas gift. Its my first Stainless Steel Knife. I am definitely impressed and thought I would share my experience with it and pass along the information I know about this knife. I hope this helps if you are looking at one.

I think I made it sounds really bad, but it's actually not that bad. Worth the money if you ask me. I'd get the shorter version though, and use it as backup knife if I had to choose. http://www.ikbsknifetech.com/11/1504.html and there's link for IKBS info.
