Gold in Vermont
Update! Here is the sequel to Gold in Vermont: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmKzfpSROTI&t=577s In the 1850s Vermont had a small scale gold rush as prospectors flooded in searching the streams for gold. In this video I set out into the back woods of Vermont in search of placer gold much the same way it would have been found in the 1850s, by panning by hand. I then rappel underground into an abandoned gold mine in search of gold bearing ore.

Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California.[1] The news of gold brought some 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad.[2] The sudden influx of immigration and gold into the money supply reinvigorated the American economy, and California became one of the few American states to go directly to statehood, in the Compromise of 1850. The Gold Rush initiated the California Genocide, with 100,000 Native Californians dying between 1848 and 1868. By the time it ended, California had gone from a thinly populated ex-Mexican territory to the home state of the first nominee for the Republican Party. The effects of the Gold Rush were substantial. Whole indigenous societies were attacked and pushed off their lands by the gold-seekers, called "forty-niners" (referring to 1849). The first to hear confirmed information of the gold rush were the people in Oregon, the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii), and Latin America, and they were the first to start flocking to the state in late 1848. Of the 300,000 people who came to America during the Gold Rush, approximately half arrived by sea and half came overland on the California Trail and the Gila River trail; forty-niners often faced substantial hardships on the trip. While most of the newly arrived were Americans, the Gold Rush attracted tens of thousands from Latin America, Europe, Australia, and China. Agriculture and ranching expanded throughout the state to meet the needs of the settlers. San Francisco grew from a small settlement of about 200 residents in 1846 to a boomtown of about 36,000 by 1852. Roads, churches, schools and other towns were built throughout California. In 1849 a state constitution was written. The new constitution was adopted by referendum vote, and the future state's interim first governor and legislature were chosen. In September, 1850, California became a state. At the beginning of the Gold Rush, there was no law regarding property rights in the goldfields and a system of "staking claims" was developed. Prospectors retrieved the gold from streams and riverbeds using simple techniques, such as panning. Although the mining caused environmental harm, more sophisticated methods of gold recovery were developed and later adopted around the world. New methods of transportation developed as steamships came into regular service. ------------------------------------------------------------ Hashtags: #History #California #GoldRush #1849 #49ers #fortyniners

Metal Detecting Old Foundations
Enter our monthly contest to win cool prizes to help you find more treasure. February's prize is a Garrett Pin Pointer! Enter and get details at: http://highplainsprospectors.com/blog/?p=771 In this video it is mid-December and nearly 50 degrees! Not a week later it was in the mid 20's...but that won't deter us to keep metal detecting this year as long as we can dig. Here we are on a property that was once on the Black Bob Indian Reservation in far Southern Overland Park, KS (Johnson County). We only had a few hours, but we did find some silver. There are actually 4 foundations on this property but we only hit 3 and rather quickly (one of the guys with us had to go). This is an amazing property and I am certain there are relics and more coins on this property. This area also saw some Civil War activity and could yield some really cool old relics. If we ever get a chance to go back I will try to get some more (and better) video next time!
Gunfights in the wild west - Australian Gold Rush History

Fraser River Gold Claim DIY Sluice Box (1 man washplant )
This is a short clip showing a small setup up I put together. Light enough to be packed in and set up in an hour by one guy. The water source is a 6.5 Hp 3" pump pulling water from the Fraser River. I'm working a bank in an old growth stand between Hope and Yale, British Columbia. I've constructed a small grizzly / derocker to classify the materials down to an inch or two. I'm running an 8' sluice box at 250 gpm. Miners moss, expanded steel and a slanted rifles are catching everything from flakes down to fine flour (200 mesh + ) This placer claim has seen generations of miners from the late 1850's on. My tailings pond flows through what I suspect is an old Chinese cut. There are several km of flume trenching feeding their old workings. There are leftover shacks and shafts on the 50 plus acres and signs of larger scale machine mininig from the 60's or 70's. I had to remove 8' of old Fraser silt overburden to find the first showing of black sands and gravel in this location. You can see some of the pit in the background. I'm about four feet into the gravels and the gold flakes are getting larger. ...

Visit To Calico Ghost Town: Popular Authentic Restored Silver Mining Town
http://www.hollywoodhaunter.com/ This is a real abandoned mining ghost town fixed up by Walter Knott. Join us for a fun birthday shenanigans at the Knott's Berry Farm sponsored Calico Old Mining Ghost Town in Yermo California located 13 miles east of Barstow in the Mojave Desert in the Calico Mountains. This popular tourist attraction that is a multi colored rocky mountain area produced one of the richest silver strikes in California history back in the 1800s. Back then the population rose to 1,200 people. After three hours of plundering the towns many saloons we paid a quick visit to the Rainbow Basin a natural area that has multi-colored rock formations. I wanted to spend the day doing something different with the birthday girl so I surprised her with this low key relaxing trip out to the desert. We even picked up a few inspirations for our Halloween home haunt decorated yard this year which happens to be an old abandoned western ghost town. We comment along the way as we explore and travel through the town and make prop, haunter, and Halloween references. You will see us explore old buildings, shops, abandoned silver mine called Maggie Shaft, Glory Holes, gold panning, see antique tools and equipment, mystery shacks that make us wheezy and gun slinging fights in the streets. The trip gave us several ideas for building all our Halloween ghost town facades. We didn't stay for the stunning Mojave sunset. Thanks for watching and joining us on this little adventure. Sounds strange, but that's exactly what we found! Is this the real life Fallout 4? Did we walk onto the real life movie set of The Walking Dead or The Hills Have Eyes? It certainly felt that way. When we first saw the abandoned swimming pool surrounded by a barbed wire fence, we had to really wonder just how long it must have sat abandoned. It's been at least 30 years! This pool also had a diving board, which is still in pretty good condition! What an amazing place for a swimming pool! As if that isn't cool enough, this abandoned town also has an abandoned playground where children once played, and this place is remote... SO remote the nearest (very small) city is about 2 hours away! Come with us as we explore this entire abandoned town full of stuff! Abandoned trucks, cars, buildings, homes, and so much more. It's crazy how stuff like this can still be found out there! In future episodes, we explore multiple abandoned homes, find an old laboratory filled with chemicals, a massive safe inside a building and surrounded by concrete, an old mill that resembled a maze, and more. Stay tuned. I tried some different video processing techniques this time around. If you love them, let us know. If you hate them, let us know. The places we visit are usually very remote with little to no chance of help if something were to happen. It's been said that one can stumble upon drug labs out at these remote locations, which is a possibility we always keep in mind. Metal detecting abandoned 1700s house; we couldn't believe the finds!
Digbits #46: "Saving history": The Silverslingers had the amazing opportunity to go metal detecting in & around an abandoned 1700s colonial home before demolition, and I had a lifetime find! We did some exploration inside the house as well - spooky! I am sure there were ghosts watching our moves, especially in the basement which looked just like a cellar hole...We shot a celebratory salute with AR-15 assault rifles at the end to honor those who lived at this homestead. Thank you for joining us! At least part of this residence will live on now... Equipment used: White's MXT Pro, VX3, Gopro, TRX Bullseye

A skull, silvers coins, and other goodies - Metal Detecting the woods with Garrett AT Pro
Probably my last venture into the woods for a bit. The thorns are brutal and the poison ivy is starting to show its evil face. Had a good last trip out with a couple of silvers, a decapitated deer skull which is always fun, and the first tiny naked lady dig of the year. I can't recall how many naked ladies I dug up last year offhand, hmm........

The California Gold Rush Experience: Facts, Miners, Timeline, Towns (1998)
The California Gold Rush (1848–1855) began on January 24, 1848, when gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0671255371/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0671255371&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=e466e8af410d510aab178d97d3765afc The first to hear confirmed information about gold in California were residents of Oregon, the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii), western Mexico, and Central America. They were the first to go there in late 1848. All told, the news of gold brought some 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad. Of the 300,000, approximately half arrived by sea and half came overland from the east, on the California Trail and the Gila River trail. The gold-seekers, called "forty-niners" (as a reference to 1849), often faced substantial hardships on the trip. While most of the newly arrived were Americans, the Gold Rush attracted tens of thousands from Latin America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. At first, the gold nuggets could be picked up off the ground. Later, gold was recovered from streams and riverbeds using simple techniques, such as panning. More sophisticated methods were developed and later adopted elsewhere. At its peak, technological advances reached a point where significant financing was required, increasing the proportion of gold companies to individual miners. Gold worth tens of billions of today's dollars was recovered, which led to great wealth for a few. However, many returned home with little more than what they had started with. The effects of the Gold Rush were substantial. San Francisco grew from a small settlement of about 200 residents in 1846 to a boomtown of about 36,000 by 1852. Roads and other towns were built throughout California. In 1849 a state constitution was written, and a governor and legislature were chosen. California became a state as part of the Compromise of 1850. New methods of transportation developed as steamships came into regular service. By 1869 railroads were built across the country from California to the eastern United States. Agriculture and ranching expanded throughout the state to meet the needs of the settlers. At the beginning of the Gold Rush, there was no law regarding property rights in the goldfields and a system of "staking claims" was developed. The Gold Rush also resulted in attacks on Native Americans, who were forcibly removed from their lands. An estimated 100,000 California Indians died between 1848 and 1868, and some 4,500 of them were murdered. Gold mining also caused environmental harm to rivers and lakes. Overnight California gained the international reputation as the "golden state".[138] Generations of immigrants have been attracted by the California Dream. California farmers,[139] oil drillers,[140] movie makers,[141] airplane builders,[142] and "dot-com" entrepreneurs have each had their boom times in the decades after the Gold Rush.[143] The literary history of the Gold Rush is reflected in the works of Mark Twain (The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County), Bret Harte (A Millionaire of Rough-and-Ready), Joaquin Miller (Life Amongst the Modocs), and many others.[29][144] Included among the modern legacies of the California Gold Rush are the California state motto, "Eureka" ("I have found it"), Gold Rush images on the California State Seal,[145] and the state nickname, "The Golden State", as well as place names, such as Placer County, Rough and Ready, Placerville (formerly named "Dry Diggings" and then "Hangtown" during rush time), Whiskeytown, Drytown, Angels Camp, Happy Camp, and Sawyers Bar. The San Francisco 49ers National Football League team, and the similarly named athletic teams of California State University, Long Beach, are named for the prospectors of the California Gold Rush. In addition. the standard route shield of state highways in California is in the shape of a miner's spade to honor the California Gold Rush.[146][147] Today, aptly named State Route 49 travels through the Sierra Nevada foothills, connecting many Gold Rush-era towns such as Placerville, Auburn, Grass Valley, Nevada City, Coloma, Jackson, and Sonora.[148] This state highway also passes very near Columbia State Historic Park, a protected area encompassing the historic business district of the town of Columbia; the park has preserved many Gold Rush-era buildings, which are presently occupied by tourist-oriented businesses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_gold_rush

This video particularly upholds and supports our modern vision of ' Make in India'. This video shows some of the exquisite jewels from the royal family of Mysore, the House of Wodeyar. They are still in possession of the jewels. These fine craftsmanship is dated back to the 14th century Vijayanagar Kingdom era. The particular jewels on display in the video are made public only once a year, ie. during Navratri for the worship of Mata Chamundeshwari. Well Industrial Revolution entered only in 19th century in India but very much prior to that, Indian craftsmanship had reached the highest category of finesses in the end polished product with just some simple hand tools. It is a myth that the British brought polished finesses to finished products in India. These gold jewelry were made from the abundant gold that was once found in the Kolar gold mines of Karnataka and the diamonds studded were from Golkondaa. Superior design and motifs and highly eyecatching. India is still the 'Sone ki Chidiya'. #wodeyar #mysore #matachamundeshwari #goldjewelry #makeinindia #luxuryjewels #indianroyalty Images - granger.com
