Hydraulic Gold Mining

This movie is the last remaining part of footage from an old video cassette that I owned. I believe that it is still available from the Empire Mines State Park. I do not own the copyright to this movie and this is being posted here under YouTube's Guidelines for informational and teaching purposes. Then I added pictures on my own of the Malakoff State park from days gone past when mining was active in the area to the end of this movie. This is a great addition to this hydraulic mining playlist, so watch history being taught from long ago & then learn & enjoy.

State Police Interrupt a Gold Mining Operation in Oregon!

15:39
Our mining claim neighbors called the Cops! People living on the other side of the river where our mining claim is and not liking our mining, called the cops. It appears our neighbors just did not want their liberal utopia disturbed so they call the cops to harass us. The police were very cool as I knew one of them from checking our permits on another river couple months earlier and an Oregon DEQ meeting he showed up at. The rude lady yells to at from other side of river "you need a permit to do that"...we had them of course. She also told cops we were disrespecful and rude to her...which was totally false. She made up her own narrative about what was happening to justify her being annoyed. Liberal tactic # 3, change the narrative or just plain lie! This is the short version of the video, filmed on the Applegate River in Oregon while we were LEGALLY GOLD MINING! In the video, it is a continuous video, shot on my GoPro camera that I was wearing on my head. The video shows me mining and moving around with no editing to show what actually goes on while mining. Then my buddy is helping me move rocks while I'm using a sub-surface dredge...then the cops show up , and I tell him is where the action starts. UPDATE Jan 1st, 2015: In response to some of the comments saying we are uneducated, rednecks and other stuff...the guys in the video are as follows. One is a millionaire CPA, another a self employed business owner, two others are also self employed and owns a body shop and the other an internet marketer and freelance videographer, and lastly one is the son of the CPA guy and currently in college. Oregon Mining Law: Next time this happens, I will ask the State Police to cite the offending people who disrupt our mining operation based on this Oregon Mining Law: "ORS 517.133 Interfering with a mining operation. (1) As used in this section, "lawful mining operation" means any small scale mining operation that is in full compliance with state and federal laws. (2) A person commits the crime of interfering with a mining operation if the person intentionally: (a) Interferes with a lawful mining operation; or (b) Stops, or causes to be stopped, a lawful mining operation. (3) Interfering with a mining operation is a Class C misdemeanor. [1999 c.354 §6]" Here is the GoPro camera I was using: http://amzn.to/19yYus6

The Shift to Underground Gold Mining | Real Vision

01:08
We look at the birth of underground gold mining and how the switch came about after all the easily accessible gold on the surface had been collected. This is your chance to watch a new groundbreaking documentary on gold and share it with your family and friends: https://rvtv.io/2v1lNga Check out this short animation (and the rest of this brief animation series), narrated by Grant Williams, to find out more about the history of gold mining: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2-78gs9nRfNbf-M8LAJuWxUzeQ3yRxh_ Full video transcript: Once the easily accessible gold on the surface had been collected, prospectors needed to start thinking about how to work lower down. Beneath the Earth's crust they went. And this required miners to work together in larger groups as they started digging underground. Amazingly, underground mining dates back as far as the Romans. But the real challenge for gold miners was to move on from primitive methods of extracting gold from the soil to developing machines of increasing sophistication which allow them to mine gold from the Rock below the surface. The early days of quartz rock mining were relatively straightforward as far as the shallow deposits were concerned. But until the 1860s, the maximum depth miners could reach was around 300 feet. The sheer size and scale of the economic and geological challenges faced by early miners meant it would take many years of technological progress to enable deep or to be reached.

Gold Mining On The Yuba River

09:20
Gold Mining On The Yuba River The Ancient American River, Ancient Yuba River, Ancient Calaveras River, Ancient Mokelumne River, Ancient Tuolumne River, Ancient Magalia Channel, Ancient Intervolcanic Cateract Channel, Ancient Intervolcanic American River and the Ancient Jura River (from the Jurassic Period), are plotted in detail on Big Tens California Gold Map 5. The present-day rivers bearing the same names as their ancient rivers are also shown. The Ancient Rivers of Gold in northern California are from the Tertiary Period. The Tertiary rivers existed millions of years ago and many of them had large quantities of gold within their gravels. Because of that, they are known as the "Ancient Rivers of Gold." Each ancient river is discussed below. Information on this page is based on the classic work of Waldemar Lindgren of the United States Geological Survey and by study of Big Tens California Gold Map 5, which shows the relationship of the ancient rivers to landmarks, such as roads, creeks and towns in the region. These now-dry Tertiary rivers are thought to be a prime source of the gold found in many of the rivers and streams of the Mother Lode region of northern California. The ancient rivers are discontinuous and sometimes follow tortuous routes. They have been altered by volcanic activity, erosion, and in some instances portions of the rivers have been covered by lava. Much of the region underwent extreme volcanic eruptions. Volcanic flows have been found up to 4,000 feet deep. Volcanic flows were up to 60 miles in length. Portions of an ancient river may be found at ground level or near the top of a mountain, or on the side of a mountain, or buried. Early prospectors found portions of the ancient rivers and worked them for their rich gold content. Later, mining companies used hydraulic mining or drift mining techniques to recover the gold. In hydraulic mining, water under pressure is directed to, for example, the side of a ravine to dislodge the gravels and send the material to the sluices where the gold is recovered. The equipment that was used (called a "monitor" or "giant") was similar to a very large hose nozzle. Geologic reports speak of gravel deposits up to 250 feet deep with gold deposits interspersed at various levels within the gravels. Some of the gravels of the ancient rivers of gold have been cemented together over time. Smaller materials between the larger gravels have bound the larger gravels together. Drift mining is used in those instances to follow the channel underneath the volcanic covering. In drift mining, tunnels are driven in bedrock underneath the channels and when the channels are reached, the richest stratum, resting immediately on the bedrock, is extracted by underground mining methods and then washed at the mouth of the tunnel. Many miles of the ancient rivers are still un-worked and may be very rich in gold.

California’s Historic Italian Gap Mines

23:54
In the early days of California’s Gold Rush, the focus was on finding gold and not on keeping records. As such, I could uncover no specific information at all on the Italian miners that were here first to turn over the gravel and rocks in search of placer gold. The scant records I could locate on the lode mine were from more than a century ago and they only made a passing reference to it – no details at all were shared on matters such as production, equipment, the size of the mine, the number of miners, the history of the mine, etc. The one exception was a report that stated assays had revealed an average gold content of .22 troy ounces per ton of ore from this mine with an estimate of 50,000 tons of ore remaining. That’s 11,000 ounces of gold for those of you that don’t feel like doing the math. Other than that sliver of information, we are left with what we can observe for ourselves. However, with the knowledgeable audience I have, I’m sure we’ll be able to put a lot of pieces together on this one with the collective knowledge available. The wooden ore carts were popular in remote settings such as this mine because the metal frame and wheels could be transported in pieces and then assembled once the miners arrived at the site. The wooden components – essentially the “box” of the ore cart – could usually be sourced right around the mine itself by chopping a tree down. So, it was a relatively simple way to get ore carts into operation at a mine. The wooden ore carts are, obviously, not as durable as the metal ore carts. However, they can take a surprising amount of abuse and, aside from being much lighter to transport, they are much cheaper too. So, it isn’t a surprise that we find the metal bits and pieces from the remains of wooden ore carts all over the place in the regions of the Sierra Nevada where historic mining operations were. This was the first (and only) time I have ever seen an intact frame for a wooden ore cart in California. And I have only ever seen one fully intact wooden ore cart at a mine, which was preserved by the dry deserts of Nevada. I was quite intrigued by that mine up the side of the canyon with what I assume was an air shaft. The mines with dirt around them rather than hard rock erode shut very quickly. So, I wasn’t optimistic about getting into that one via the adit when I saw that waste rock pile from above. However, with ropes and technical gear, one could possibly drop down into the mine via the air shaft. I would imagine that no one has been in that mine for a very long time – more than 150 years if it dates to around the time of California’s Gold Rush. Imagine what could be in an untouched mine like that! Ha, probably nothing, but you never know… There was an old rock crusher in the river below the stamp mill, but the video of this was lost. This was a long, steep hike down and back out – especially when carrying fifty pounds of mine exploring gear on my back! The section I showed in the video with the national anthem of Italy playing in the background was just a tiny percentage of the hike and didn’t include the steepest parts. The flies and mosquitoes on the way back were absolutely awful too. So, in other words, I hope this video is enjoyed... ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! It really does make a difference. You can see the gear that I use for mine exploring here: https://bit.ly/2wqcBDD You can click here for my full playlist of abandoned mines: https://goo.gl/TEKq9L Thanks for watching! ***** Growing up in California’s “Gold Rush Country” made it easy to take all of the history around us for granted. However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well. These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that colorful niche of our history is gone forever. But, you know what? We enjoy doing it! This is exploring history firsthand – bushwhacking down steep canyons and over rough mountains, figuring out the techniques the miners used and the equipment they worked with, seeing the innovations they came up with, discovering lost mines that no one has been in for a century, wandering through ghost towns where the only sound is the wind... These journeys allow a feeling of connection to a time when the world was a very different place. And I’d love to think that in some small way we are paying tribute to those hardy miners that worked these mines before we were even born. So, yes, in short, we are adit addicts… I hope you’ll join us on these adventures! #ExploringAbandonedMines #MineExploring #AbandonedMines #UndergroundMineExploring

Alluvial Gold Prospecting - How to get the most Gold from a Dry Creek Bed Part 2

04:42
This video is part 2 of "Alluvial Gold Prospecting - How to get the most Gold from a Dry Creek Bed". In this video, I process the dirt which I scraped up from a small 2 metre squared area of a dry creek bed ( gutter ) shown in the first video. Although the results we're not as good as I had hoped, they were still good. I ended up with around 5 grams of gold including a nice nugget...so around $250 (AUD) for half a days work was a good day indeed. Imagine what a few full days on a couple of hundred metres of that little creek ( washout gutter ) would produce...now that's payable ground. Happy prospecting. Aussie. Soundtrack: "Runaways" by Silent Partner ( Youtube Audio Library) This Channel features topics such as: Gold Prospecting, Gold Prospecting Australia, How to get Gold, Gold Panning Australia, How to find Gold in Australia, Australian Gold, Gold Nuggets, Alluvial Gold Prospecting Techniques, Metal Detecting, Gemstones, Gem Fossicking, Mapping, Navigation, Gold Research, 4WDing and more. Placer Gold Ore Dry Mining Methods

01:29
There are two mining methods for placer gold ore, dry mining and wet mining. Dry mining method commonly used for the slope deposits as well as the continental deposit which the useful minerals exist in shallow ground and without rich groundwater. Usually use mining excavators, bulldozers, loaders, dump trucks and other engineering equipment to complete excavation and transportation, but according to the actual situation may be adopt belt conveyors or spiral conveyors instead of dump truck to complete transportation operations.

Found! Secret Gold Mine and Mining Camp Hidden in the Mountains

05:26
We recently stumbled upon this secret, hidden, abandoned mine and mining camp high up in the mountains. We explored one mine tunnel as well as the surface structures. A shed onsite contained an old vintage Silvertone radio/record player from 1940, a winch, a newspaper from 1957, and other artifacts. Inside the mine, we found more artifacts used by the miners, and we demonstrate in the video how those artifacts were used by the miners long ago.

Gold prospecting Arizona bedrock

Just had a grate time out there prospecting for gold and took some home .. Love it #gold fever pls subscribe to GOLD RUNNERSS ..thank you guys Prospecting for placer gold is normally done with a gold pan or similar instrument to wash free gold particles from loose surface sediment.[1] The use of gold pans is centuries old, but is still common among prospectors and miners with little financial backing. Deeper placer deposits may be sampled by trenching or drilling.[2] Geophysical methods such as seismic, gravity or magnetics may be used to locate buried river channels that are likely locations for placer gold.[3] Sampling and assaying a placer gold deposit to determine its economic viability is subject to many pitfalls.[4] Once placer gold is discovered, the gold pan is usually replaced by sluices or mechanical devices to wash greater volumes of material. Discovery of placer gold has often resulted in discovery of hardrock gold deposits when the placers are traced to their source Prospectors for hardrock, or lode gold deposits, can use many tools. It is done at the simplest level by surface examination of rock outcrops, looking for exposures of mineral veins, hydrothermal alteration, or rock types known to host gold deposits. Field tools may be nothing more than a rock hammer and hand lens. Hardrock gold deposits are more varied in mineralogy and geology than placer deposits, and prospecting methods can be very different for different types of deposits. As with placer gold, the sophistication of methods used to prospect for hardrock gold vary with the financial resources of the prospector. Drilling is often used to explore the subsurface. Surface geophysical methods may be used to locate geophysical anomalies associated with gold deposits. Samples of rocks or soil may be collected for geochemical laboratory assay, to determine metal content or detect geochemical anomalies.[5] Hardrock gold particles may be too small to see, even with a microscope. Most gold today is produced in large open-pit and deep underground mines. However, small-scale gold mining is still common, especially in third-world countries. A recent study by Australian scientists found that termites have been found to excrete trace deposits of gold. According to the CSIRO, the termites burrow beneath eroded subterranean material which typically masks human attempts to find gold, and ingest and bring the new deposits to the surface. They believe that studying termite nests may lead to less invasive methods of finding gold deposits.[6] where to find gold, how to find gold, minerals, mineral identification, gold mine, gold, the mine, mining gold, how do i find gold, rocks and minerals gold bug 2 mine lab garret how to pan for gold gold bug 2 arizona gold prospecting little san domingo wash linx lake Arizona desert Gold mining in Alaska Gold in California Gold nugget Gold panning Gold Prospectors Association of America Gold rush Hushing Mineral exploration Placer mining Recreational gold mining little san domingo wash lynx lake GPAA how to

My day trip prospecting for gold in the Bear River near Colfax. I show the details of the location so potential prospectors can judge if this location is for them. Site specific techniques as well as general information are discussed. I hope to save you time and money by allowing you to accurately preview this venue. Gold prospecting Northern California rivers can be fabulous, but valuable time can be wasted traveling to a spot that does not fit your need.

An Unusual Gold Mine In Nevada

23:44
In this video, I endeavor to spare you, my dear viewers, from having to make the long drive to the middle of nowhere in Nevada (along with the associated costs for fuel and damage to your vehicle on the rough road in). In addition, you are able to avoid the relatively long, hot hike up to this abandoned mine. And, of course, you are also spared from needing to spend any time underground in this sketchy abandoned mine as well. Now don’t get me wrong, we (usually) enjoy this sort of thing, but most probably would not… The mineral potential of this area was first recognized in the mid-1800s and a town and mill sprang up around the areas in the canyon that looked most promising very shortly thereafter. However, no one appears to have gotten rich here and (as with countless mining towns) everything slowly faded away, interspersed with only brief flurries of activity when new discoveries or economic conditions temporarily brought miners out into the hills again. There are surprisingly few records available on this specific mine. Although it is mentioned that work took place here in the 1930s, the only years that we could find production data for were for two years in the 1940s. This was primarily a gold mine, but some silver was extracted here as well. The official production figures were not terribly inspiring, but it seems that contemporary mining companies still poke around this site from time to time – even in those small, fractured stopes underground as could be seen from the surveyor’s flags... Although samples have been taken, to my knowledge, no modern exploratory work has been conducted. My exploring buddy on this trip was Mines of the West: https://www.youtube.com/user/GramVideos95 ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well. These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that niche of our history is gone forever. But, you know what? We enjoy doing it! These journeys allow a feeling of connection to a time when the world was a very different place. Keystone Gold Mining Claim - Nevada - 2017

13:12
The Keystone, located just outside of Winnemucca, Nevada, covers an astounding 80 acres of workings from the historic Keystone and Tamzy mines. The Keystone was first developed on a small scale in around 1870. The majority of the work was done from 1936 to 1940 when the mine was owned by the Jones Brothers, before it was shut down by the War Act.

gold prospecting UAV - Drone Prospecting

gold prospecting UAV - http://www.california-gold-rush-miner.us/gold-rush-miner.htm - UAV is an acronym for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, or More commonly known as a drone. Now, here I'm talking about very small drones under 5 pounds. These are being used for all sorts of task such as land surveying, roof inspection, and naturally some very cool aerial video photography. In this video I'm using my Yuneec Typhoon G model drone with my go Pro Hero 4 Black camera attached. We are in Southern California about 20 miles west of the border with Yuma Arizona. Where in the area of placer gold mining just a little north of Highway 8. As you can see from the video the use of a drone like this which not only records video but also sends back the video stream to a screen on my transmitter, gives the recreational prospector a great tool for saving time when looking for areas that might be the best to sample or start prospecting in. To see additional photos taken on this gold prospecting trip and or to get more information on where to purchase this drone at the best possible price be sure to visit our very popular California gold nugget site. Exploring The Abandoned Monte Cristo Mine

23:28
This abandoned gold mine is near the bottom of an extremely remote and inaccessible canyon in California's Sierra Nevada mountain range. Although there was a rough trail to this mine at one time, most sections of the trail have been reclaimed by Mother Nature and hours of bushwhacking down a very steep canyon will be required for a visit (Of course, you can save yourself the hassle by simply watching the video). I do not know the history of this lode mine, but I have spoken to a local historian that visited it about twenty years ago. This is how I know about the second stamp mill and some other details. ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! Mexican mining method

They have 7 yards of dirt delivered to the rivers edge and use a 2'x3' sluice box with miners moss only in it. They use 2' trash pumps to wash the dirt over the sluice. This method worked extremely well for them and very simple to do. They averaged 7 grams a day some lower and some higher. I saw 12 grams out of one box.
