http://www.euronews.com/ This mountain contains Europe's biggest gold deposits. With the economic crisis, the price of gold is rocketing and there are plans to open new gold mines in Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, Greece, Northern Ireland and Romania. The Rosia Montana - Red Mountain - project is among the most controversial, due to the sheer size of the proposed site, the impact on environment, and the archaeological artefacts from Ancient Rome which are found all over this 2000 year-old site. Team-leader Calin Pal checks the preservation works being carried out in the protected section of the site, criss-crossed by galleries dug by the Romans. He says: "There are at least three generations of miners before me: My great grandfather, my grandfather, and my father. My hope is that the next ten generations will go on mining here too." Most locals feel the same way. They want the Canadian investors to start blasting as soon as possible. But opponents fear that the Roman galleries will be destroyed. To ease tensions, the "Gold Corporation" is investing millions of euros to transform at least part of the Roman galleries into an underground museum. Robert Horvath, an Archaeologist on the site said: "The biggest information is the shape of the gallery: So, when it is geometrical, we know it is Roman. And we find ladders, ancient Roman type. And we find lamp niches and we know that medieval miners did not use the same shape." Calin's men remove the backfill from centuries ago, so that the historic galleries can be mapped. Since 1998, mining in Romania has seen radical changes: 550 mines closed, 80,000 people laid off. The mines from Communist times did not conform with modern regulations, or with EU competition rules. When the Canadian investors arrived, the miners here had high hopes, but opponents fear that few profits will stay in Romania. But Catalin Hosu, Communications Manager for Rosia Montana Gold Corporation said: "We do have the biggest gold deposit in the European Union: over 300 tons of gold. We do have here a proposed investment of over two billion dollars. We are talking about benefits for Romania: over 4 billion dollars, that means over 50% of the total estimated revenues. And we are talking about creating thousands of jobs." To allay fears about pollution from the cyanide, the company has designed a dam. It will be strong enough to withstand an earthquake of 8 degrees on the Richter scale. Sorin Jurca, Rosia Montana Cultural Foundation, said: "All this area will be destroyed: The Corna valley over there, where 40 families still live, with two churches and with graveyards. The company wants to build a big dam and a lake covering 600 hectares. If they'll build the dam, all of this will disappear from the surface of this planet." Most of the inhabitants have already agreed to be resettled 70kms away, near Alba Iulia. On the outskirts of the town, the company has spent almost 30 million euros building 125 new houses and a church. Back in the mining region, ex-miners are hoping for new jobs, and a new economic future. But the Roma families fear they are being sidelined when it comes to hiring - out of the 480 people taken on so far, only 30 are Roma. Dorinel Pantir, a former Roma miner from Daroaia, said: "Gold Corporation should talk to us directly, not through the local mayor's people. We should set up a committee to sign a protocol with Gold Corporation so that at least one member of each Roma family will be hired." The decline of mining here has led to unemployment rates of around 80% and young people are leaving. But life has always been hard here. In the 50s, during the Communist era gold prospectors had problems too. Ioan Catalina, a gold prospector, explained: "The Secret Service police shouted: "To the wall, face the wall! And he started waving his pistol around, threatening us. "I could shoot you on the spot! But you have one last chance!" So my grandfather and his friend destroyed their gold milling equipment." The red water from the old galleries is so polluted nothing can survive in it. The Gold Corporation has built a water treatment station, a high-tech lab, using nano-filter technology. The says it will clean up not only its own waste water, but also the mess from past centuries. Catalin Hosu, Communications Manager, Rosia Montana Gold Corporation said: "What you see here is historic pollution. Maybe for hundreds of years. It is very acidic water. But it can be cleaned up. We have a pilot station, proving this. And this is the result: clean and drinkable water." In the 1970s, South Africa was the world's most prolific exporter of gold. Over the years, industrial decline has seen widespread closures of the mines across the country. However, Johannesburg sits on the biggest gold basin ever discovered. It's perhaps not surprising that many of these abandoned mines have seen a recent boom in illegal mining activity. Everyday, hundreds of illegal gold miners, known as Zama Zamas, descend kilometers deep beneath the surface. The miners often spend weeks underground, toiling away at the country's untapped gold reserves. Observers have suggested that illegal mining is now so widespread, black-market gold arguably supports the communities once subsistent on the very same mines they worked in before they shut down. The lack of policing in the mines has seen the practice go on largely unabated. However, in the absence of law enforcement, the extensive network of abandoned mines beneath the region has become an arena to deadly gang warfare between rival factions. VICE News visited illegal mines near Johannesburg, to meet the Zama Zamas risking life and limb everyday in the violent struggle for South Africa's illegal gold. Canadian mining company Nautilus Minerals has reached an agreement with the government of Papua New Guinea to begin mining an area of seabed believed to be rich in gold and copper ores, according to the BBC. Under the terms of the agreement, Papua New Guinea will contribute $120 million to the operation and receive a 15 percent share in the mine. Environmentalists say the mine will devastate the area and cause long-lasting damage to the environment. The BBC reports that "the mine will target an area of hydrothermal vents where superheated, highly acidic water emerges from the seabed, where it encounters far colder and more alkaline seawater, forcing it to deposit high concentrations of minerals." The report continues: The result is that the seabed is formed of ores that are far richer in gold and copper than ores found on land. Mike Johnston, chief executive of Nautilus Minerals told the BBC "that a temperature probe left in place for 18 months was found to have 'high grade copper all over it'." Nautilus announced in April that it had completed its bulk cutter, the first component of its Seafloor Production Tools system, which will be used to mine the seabed. Nautilus also approximately 500,000 square kilometres of "highly prospective exploration acreage" in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu and Tonga, as well as in international waters in the eastern Pacific, the company said in a press release. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. Ein Film von Katja Becker und Jonathan Happ (2016) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem vom BMBF-geförderten Forschungsprojekt AFRASO –"Afrika's Asiatische Optionen" (http://www.afraso.org). Wissenschaftliches Konzept: Diderot Nguepjouo und Jürgen Runge Over the last decade, Cameroon’s artisanal and small-scale mining sector has gone through several mutations thanks to the new policy which has attracted various international investors from Asia, Africa, Europe, and America. As from 2012 on, the involvement of Chinese entrepreneurs has dramatically accelerated the pace of progress in the sector. Some of them switched from other economic activities they were already pursuing in the country whilst the others, mostly mining professionals, moved from the Ghanaian gold mining business to Cameroon. Chinese entrepreneurs have gradually become main players in the gold mining operations, recording successes, while other actors, e.g. Koreans, went bankrupt and in many cases have sold their business capital to Chinese without any competition. Through taking over those projects coupled with their greenfield mining initiatives, Chinese investors has gained the image of successful businessmen in the sector. As a result, their working style and techniques are gradually being adopted by almost all local and foreign investors. This is the context that spurred AFRASO researcher Diderot NGUEPJOUO together with the filmmaking crew UJUZI travel to Cameroon and shoot the 3rd AFRASO documentary. The film follows several active players in the major segments of the Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) in Cameroon: a Chinese investor; local entrepreneurs (member of Parliament, businessman, and middleman); workers, small operators in “Nguéré”, civil servants as well as the affected communities on their working sites. The film reveals that political elite and administrative authorities appear to favour the involvement of Chinese operators because they consider it beneficial to the State and local entrepreneurs (service providers, middlemen…), while traditional rulers and business people who did not partner with Chinese are less supportive of this presence. Furthermore, the positive impacts resulting from gold mining are reported to be enjoyed by Chinese investors and some local entrepreneurs while the communities are left with the impact of these activities such as land disturbance, water pollution, diseases... All in all, the movie tries to put forward the ongoing dynamics and contradictions that are taking place in the Cameroon's gold mining.

What is Dredging Dredging is an important process in the maintenance and health of waterways and assorted bodies of water. Over time, the water in lakes, rivers, harbors, ponds and elsewhere deposits sand, silt and other debris during sedimentation. This can cause waterways to become too shallow to allow commercial and recreational marine traffic to pass, and it can choke off needed nutrients and oxygen from ecosystems — with detrimental results for aquatic wildlife and native plants. To combat the effects of sedimentation — as well as the accumulation of hazardous materials in certain instances — dredging actively excavates unwanted sediment and debris from bodies of water and transports the material to a different location. So much of the water around us is used for the transport of goods, recreational purposes, and the habitat of fish and other aquatic life. Therefore, dredging serves to help keep everything from commercial waterways and canals navigable to ponds and shorelines healthy and attractive. How Dredging Works A Dino6 dredge operator typically works from a floating platform equipped with a submersible boom. The operator lowers the boom assembly, on the end of which is an agitator and pump that's used to loosen sediment and safely transport it away. This process can be used to create new waterways, reopen old ones, mine for metals, maintain ecosystems, clean up trash and debris, restore shorelines and much more. In the video above, deposited sediment on the edge of a waterway is being removed. In addition to the highly popular and versatile cutter-suction method of dredging, there are also plain-suction, auger-suction and jet-lift methods that work successfully in different circumstances to remove sediment. Regardless of which method is employed, all dredging operations must be carried out in full compliance with any applicable local and federal laws and how they direct the safe disposal of dredged materials. Dino 6 — The World's Leading Small Dredge The Dino 6 dredge is a lightweight, compact dredging platform designed to work in areas that are inaccessible to other dredges. With an overall length of just 22 feet, a width of less than 6 feet and a total weight of approximately 3,800 pounds, the Dino 6 is built to launch like a boat — yet it performs like a conventional dredge. The Dino6 can be used to dredge sediment on the banks of waterways, as shown in the video above, or it can be used to remove muck from the bottom of ponds and other bodies of water. Thanks to the innovative size and configuration of the Dino 6, you can use it without causing damage or leaving tracks on fragile shorelines. Despite its compactness, the Dino 6 comes equipped with a reliable Cummins diesel engine that’s simple to operate and gives the direct-drive, abrasion-resistant cutter head plenty of torque to get the job done. What’s more: Its powerful suction pump can move 1,500 gallons per minute, and the entire hydraulic submersible dredge pump is built to be best-in-class. From golf course pond maintenance to marina and lagoon excavation, the Dino 6 is winning over customers that include homeowners’ associations, municipalities, marine restoration services, mining companies, ranchers, farmers and many, many more. For more information on the Dino 6 or to get answers to any questions you have about it, contact us today.

I am an ethical jeweller and sole trader. Whenever possible I try to work in a sustainable way. In 2013 my son and I went to South America to visit Americo, one of the many miners who work within the Fairtrade/Fairmined guidelines. My son filmed this trip and in the film Americo tells, in his own words, how he is paid a fair price plus a premium from Fairtrade/Fairmined for his gold. Such payments are then fed directly back into the local community. The film demonstrates Americo mining in an ecological manner; all health and safety standards are in place, no damaging child labour is used, both men and women mine and pan for gold and platinum, the miners themselves take responsibility for the safe handling and disoposal of chemicals used in the extraction process, seams are backfilled and replanted after they have been exhausted. Americo claims that he and his fellow miners make every effort to mine in a sustainable manner. This is in contrast to foreign large scale mining operations who, Americo says, do not mine responsibly and thus destroy the local waterways and environment. In my business I am totally dedicated to supporting these miners by using only Fairtrade/Fairmined gold.

The Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT) is a railway tunnel through the Alps in Switzerland. It opened on 1 June 2016, and full service began on 11 December 2016. With a route length of 57 km (35.4 mi) and a total of 151.84 km (94.3 mi) of tunnels, shafts and passages, it is the world's longest rail tunnel, surpassing the Seikan Tunnel in Japan. Its main purpose is to increase total transport capacity across the Alps, especially for freight, notably between Germany and Italy, and more particularly to shift freight volumes from road to rail to reduce environmental damage caused by ever-increasing numbers of heavy lorries. A secondary benefit will be to cut the journey time for passenger trains from Zürich to Milan by about an hour and from Zürich to Lugano to 1-hour 40 minutes. The project consists of two single-track tunnels. It is part of the AlpTransit project, also known as the New Railway Link through the Alps (NRLA), which includes the Lötschberg Base Tunnel between the cantons of Bern and Valais and the under construction Ceneri Base Tunnel (scheduled to open late 2019) to the south. It bypasses the Gotthardbahn, a winding mountain route opened in 1882 across the Saint-Gotthard Massif, which is now operating at capacity, and establishes a direct route usable by high-speed rail and heavy freight trains. The total cost of the project is 9.8 billion Swiss francs, or US$10.3 billion. When completed, the Gotthard Base Tunnel will be one of the longest tunnel construction projects in the world: 20 years of constant construction and preparation. InvestigativeMEDIA's 24-minute video reveals the deceptive business tactics of Augusta Resource Corporation's top business executives when they operated a gold mine in Sardinia, Italy between 2003 and 2007. Augusta Resource owns the Rosemont Copper Company, which is seeking government permits to build a mile-wide, half-mile deep copper mine in the Santa Rita Mountains on the Coronado National Forest southeast of Tucson. Six of Augusta's current and former directors also served on the board of Sargold Resource Corporation. Sargold owned a gold mine near the small farming village of Furtei in southern Sardinia. The common Sargold and Augusta directors include: Augusta Chairman Richard Warke, Augusta President and CEO Gil Clausen, and directors Donald B. Clark, Robert P. Wares and Christopher M. H. Jennings. Former Augusta director Michael A. Steeves also served on the Sargold board. (Clark resigned from the Augusta board on Nov. 12, 2012.) "Cyanide Beach" documents Sargold's business history in Sardinia including: • Failing to pay local contractors, forcing vendors to obtain court judgments; • Misspending a $787,000 Sardinian government loan that was supposed to be used to develop an underground mine; • Issuing misleading press releases to investors, including a release that overstated gold reserves in Furtie forcing the Toronto Venture Stock Exchange to require the company to retract the projection. • Using its obligation to implement environmental restoration of the Furtei gold mine as leverage with Sardinian government officials in a failed attempt to gain gold mining rights elsewhere in Sardinia; • Failing to disclose Mr. Warke's personal bankruptcy in regulatory filings between 2003 and 2005; • Failing to disclose to investors in annual proxy reports that a Cayman Islands hedge fund controlled more than 10 percent of Sargold's stock between 2005 and 2007. Sargold's conduct in Sardinia left a lasting impression on its former business partners. Franco Cherchi, a former president of Sargold's Gold Mines of Sardinia subsidiary, reported directly to Mr. Warke is interviewed in his office in Iglesias, Sardinia. When asked if Mr. Warke was a man of his word, Cherchi replied with smile: "When it's no longer convenient for him, he withdraws the promise." Additional information on Sargold and a detailed business history of Mr. Warke, and his long time associate, Mr. Clark, is available at http://www.investigativemedia.com

AMERICAN FORK CANYON, Utah County -- Debris from the tailings from more than 100 abandoned mines in the north fork area above Tibble Fork Reservoir has already pushed the mineral content in the American Fork River beyond acceptable water quality limits. U.S. Forest Service officials have consequently called in a hazardous materials expert, Ted Fitzgerald, to conduct an expensive cleanup and reclamation operation that's just a step below being classified as a Superfund site. "We're looking at a major reclamation effort in the canyon," said Fitzgerald, on-scene coordinator for the American Fork Canyon Hazmat Project. He said the effort was designated in 1993 by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Inventoried Site. "That's in the same category as a Superfund site," he said. It's also legally necessary to comply with the stipulations in the Clean Water Act passed in 1972, he said. Targeted as the primary pollution sites are the Pacific Mine, the Globe Mine, the Bog Mines, the Yankee Mines and the area of Dutchman Flat. The Bog Mine soil samples show high levels of both lead and zinc. The Yankee Mines in the Mary Ellen Gulch area show a high level of both lead and zinc. The Pacific Mine showed a higher level of arsenic than recommended for human consumption, as well as lead, in four out of four fish tested. But there are more than 100 known mines in the canyon north fork of the American Fork Mining District -- mines left from an era that didn't yet recognize the need to protect fragile environments for future generations. The Pacific Mine site is the worst offender, but the Globe Mine is located almost directly on the stream, the Bog Mines are not far, and the other mines are releasing effluent material including a precipitate composed of iron and copper known as "Yellow Boy" that is staining the nearby soil. "It's good that it's here instead of into the stream," Fitzgerald said. From 1871 to 1876, more than $2.5 million in gold, silver and various ores were taken from the canyon mines by early miners who made quick money on their claims. The heyday was largely from 1870 through to 1912, with some renewed activity continuing into 1945. Most serious mining stopped in the 1930s, although Fitzgerald said some mines are occasionally worked. The metals, some of which are ground into fine grit by the milling process, wash out of the tailing piles and into the streams. Tiny organisms -- known as macroinvertebrates -- then absorb the metals, some of which are toxic. Since the macroinvertebrates are the main source of food for fish in the local water, the fish are left with less to eat and what they consume is heavily laced with metals. Cutthroat and brown trout samples collected in August showed high concentrations of the metals, especially arsenic and lead. Beaver dams on the river help some because the metals are collected by the natural compost. But when the streams and rivers run high, the metal components wash out and back into the water supply. Fitzgerald said culinary water for the downstream communities is not affected, but ground water in the canyon is at risk and the situation is unhealthy overall for the canyon environment. "Macroinvertebrates are one measure of an environment's health," he said. Previous owners and operators of the various mines are ultimately responsible for the costs of cleanup, which could run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Even the tailings on forest land or public property will be traced back to the mine of origin and the appropriate owner or operator will be billed where that's feasible. Fitzgerald said responsible parties, including corporations and descendants of mine claimants, are currently being contacted and will be told what they'll be expected to do. Affected governmental agencies, such as the Health Department, will be asked to join in to form a partnership to oversee the reclamation, Clark said. The public will be further informed about the situation within the next couple of weeks and some restrictions may go into effect such as limiting the four-wheeler activity near some of the tailings. Public reaction will be measured and if needed, public hearings will be scheduled before reclamation begins. The reclamation effort is expected to start within the next year and to be completed in October 2002. The leaking piles will be isolated. A series of man-made "cells," or artificial wetlands, will be constructed below the tailings and designed to capture the silt and metal before it enters the mainstream.

http://goldstocktrades.com/blog Sandspring Resources (SSP.V or SSPXF) is advancing its 100%-owned 4.1 million ounce Toroparu Gold Project, one of the world’s largest undeveloped gold resources completely owned 100% by a junior miner. The project is advanced and has already received the valuable Environmental Authorization, Mineral Agreement and Fiscal Stability Agreement. Sandspring is working on a definitive feasibility study. They completed a Pre-Feasibility in 2013 which showed annual production of 225k+ ounces of gold over 16 years at a $1400 gold price. This is the sort of size that could interest a major who want to enter the Guyana Shield Gold District. Sandspring has agreements with the Guyana Government to build a hydroelectric plant which could bring the cash costs down significantly and provide cheap power to other deposits as well. For those looking to see impressive sponsorship one has to look no further than NYSE royalty giant Silver Wheaton who has an agreement on the project. Sandspring's Toroparu Project is located in the same corridor as Guyana Goldfields Aurora Mine (GUY) which came into production in August 2015. Guyana's success is evident in its $8+ share price and it would not surprise me if they start looking seriously at Sandspring as they come closer or after they publish the Feasibility Study. Who knows maybe a major could then come in and consolidate the whole Western Guyana Shield district by buying both companies? Disclosure: Disclosure: Jeb Handwerger owns securities in Sandspring and the company is a website sponsor. Owning securities and receiving compensation is a conflict of interest as I could personally benefit from a price/volume increase. Please do your own due diligence as this is not financial advice! "The mining executive order released by the Palace will not cure the chronic ills of Republic Act 7942 or the controversial Mining Act of 1995", said Frances Quimpo, Secretary General of the Kalikasan Partylist. "At best, the mining EO is a band-aid attempt to solve to the already festering, rotting and gaping wounds caused by the liberalization of the Philippine mining industry. At worst, it engages in greenwashing to justify more profit-taking by foreign and large-scale miners," Quimpo added. Members of Kalikasan Partylist this morning joined other groups in a protest action in Mendiola held to denounce the Palace's announcement of the mining EO. "We are not the very least impressed with the environmental provisions outlined in the order. It attempts to put in place environmental standards, but it leaves the task to the DENR, whose track record in handling the mining disasters of the past—such as the Marinduque and Rapu-Rapu mine spills—has not proven its capacity and credibility to safeguard people's interests to strictly monitor mining operations. The DENR even lacks resources to strictly monitor mining operations, to the point of depending on mining proponents to do its job", said Quimpo. "In exchange for a few concessions and government shares, the EO will allow corporations more unhampered access to the country's vast mineral wealth," Quimpo said. "It will allow the wholesale export of finite supplies of minerals that could have otherwise been used for building national industries. It will subvert local decisions of communities and LGUs to not allow mining in their municipalities." Quimpo added. "While paying lip-service to 'value-adding activities' and 'develop downstream industries', the EO base its development plan on the PDP which is premised on developing the mining industry through more incentives for big and transnational businesses, big infrastructure projects such as large-scale mining, and public-private partnerships across various economic sectors," Quimpo pointed out. "The EO does not change the current export-oriented and import-dependent of the mining industry which has resulted in the massive environmental destruction, human rights violations, and community displacement,", Quimpo stressed. "It seems that large mining firms are now scrambling to exploit more areas in the wake of the EO. In fact, foreign-owned Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) is already asking Malacanang to overturn the DENR's rejection of its permit, which would exploit the largest copper-gold reserve in Southeast Asia spanning 10,000 hectares in the four agricultural and fisheries provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Davao del Sur and Sarangani," Quimpo added. Environmental groups such as Kalikasan Partylist have pushed for bills in Congress, such as HB 4315 (People's Mining Bill) which expand the list of areas where mining should not be allowed, including environmentally-critical areas, areas vulnerable to acid mine drainage, geohazard and climate disaster-prone areas. These were not included in the current EO. Kalikasan Partylist vowed to pursue other avenues such as challenging the EO and the Mining Act of 1995 at the Supreme Court and expressed its support for the move of Catholic bishops calling for a moratorium on the implementation of the new mining executive order (EO) released by Malacanang.

Aquasension is a co-created gathering, celebrating and calling attention to the sacred waters of the world in honor of our beloved angel, Mario Julian Benassi. 🌎🕊🎶 We gather in The Valley of the Eagles and on the edge of the Chilkat River, for three-days of heart centered ceremonies led by indigenous elders, water protection, medicine music, native dance, yoga, ecstatic dance, sweat lodges, presentations on the latest mind blowing water science and spiritual connection to water. 💦✨🙌🏽 We celebrate water as medicine in the most spectacular setting of southeast Alaska’s coastal temperate rainforest on the border of the largest expanse of untouched wilderness still remaining on the planet! 🌿💧🌳 :::: Why come to Aquasension Alaska? :::: Today is a time of critical juncture for Earth’s life-sustaining ecosystems and humankind’s continued relationship with these systems. Alaska represents one of the last places on Earth where acting quickly and making a stand can preserve an intact, untouched and pristine natural environment. Aquasension aims to make a strong and loving battle cry of support for Mother Nature/Gaia/Pacha Mama and Her gifts of pure flowing waters, clean air and healthy lands. We stand side-by-side with our native indigenous brothers and sisters to celebrate these gifts and prevent the industrialization of the Alaskan wilderness! Today the land of the Chilkat Tlingit people is at risk of high sulfide ore mining. The mining industry aims to dig a mile long tunnel for underground exploration of sulfide ore without Tlingit approval or consent. They intend to mine just six miles up stream of the ancient village of Klukwan. The indigenous people as well as environmentally-minded locals have been defending this land for nearly ten years.... now it’s our turn to join in the cause! Sulfide ore bodies (gold, silver, zinc and copper) are notorious for their production of AMD (acid mine drainage) which studies show kill fish out right. Once the mine begins they will have to forever chemically treat the river water to prevent AMD from terrorizing the river’s ecosystem. This is not a sustainable solution. The Tlingit people are the salmon people. Their entire way of life is completely interwoven with the continuation of a healthy river and its fish. The Chilkat River and its salmon friends are sacred to them, as are all the plants and animals. In turn we gather to bring awareness to this matter and honor our heart’s deep knowing that we can make a difference when we stand together as one connected tribe of the Earth. To find out more information on the Chilkat River and the mining situation, please watch the documentary of Mario Benassi Sr., “Toxic Treasure”, premiering at the end of the month. ::: Getting to Haines, Alaska :::: Daily flights land in Juneau. Form there we take a local ferry up the waters⛴ Think four- hour mini cruise up the third deepest fjord in North America to Haines, with local dedicated shuttles to the event 🐟💧🙌🏽 The Event Site: Aquasension Alaska is held at the Chilkat Inlet Retreat. (https://www.chilkatinletretreat.com) Tent camping will be available on-site and included with normal ticket purchase. Local, organic food service meals will also be available at the event and included in the first 123 tickets sold. After that attendees staying offsite will need to bring food. Availability of food in the local stores can be limited when large numbers of people come into Haines, so pack some extra snacks and bring goods to share with friends ... (and of course, plastic free packaging is highly encouraged.) :::TICKETS::: There will only be 123 camping tickets sold. These tickets include entrance, 3-days of catered meals, pristine camping spaces on the Chilkat River, indigenous elder ceremonies and talks, sweet lodge, cacao ceremony, international music performances, ecstatic dance, song circles, and much more! We are asking a minimum donation of $123 as this is the amount to cover the minimum costs (with sooo much of the needs being taken care of by donations from Haines locals and people sharing their time and energy for free) so IF YOU CAN DONATE MORE, PLEASE DO SO. If there are any extra funds after costs are taken care of, the remainder will go to the local Tlingit People. :::: 🎫 Reserve your space and donate at 🎫 :::: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/aquasension-is-a-co-created-gathering-celebrating-sacred-waters-tickets-58946810497 :::: IN ADDITION:::: Pre and Post events with indigenous elders will be taking place so plan for an extended trip if you can! Also be sure to bring your passport as we are just 40 miles from the Yukon Territory of Canada, an unspoiled vastness of which has to be experienced to understand! This is a gathering that you don’t want to miss.

Moving Mountains (1998): A fascinating look at the lengths mining companies will take to uncover and exploit natural resources. Subscribe to journeyman for daily uploads: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=journeymanpictures The luscious green valley towns are now surrounded by 20-storey steel 'dragmine' cranes, which are steadily flattening the mountains and dropping the rubble into the valleys. Over 469 valley streams have been buried. The state environment department is keen on the process. Things do grow back and flatter land is more useful for building and farming. But the townsfolk who are threatened with losing their homes are fed-up with the bullying. There have even been 'fly rock incidents' with rubble blasted into homes. James Weakly's lilting southern twang snaps as he watches other townsfolk selling-up and getting out: "The only way they're gonna get us out is with a bulldozer. Period." But with another valuable coal seam beneath their homes it may well come to that. Best Documentary 2016 The Secrets Of Gold Earth Mysteries A gold rush is an interval of feverish migration of workers to an area that has had a dramatic discovery of gold deposits. Major gold rushes took place in the 19th century in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, South Africa, and the United States, while smaller gold rushes took place elsewhere. There were six major gold rushes. The permanent wealth that resulted was distributed widely because of reduced migration costs and low barriers to entry. While gold mining itself was unprofitable for most diggers and mine owners, some people made large fortunes, and the merchants and transportation facilities made large profits. The resulting increase in the world's gold supply stimulated global trade and investment. Historians have written extensively about the migration, trade, colonization, and environmental history associated with gold rushes stoner documentary, life documentary, earth documentary, north korea, new documentary, television documentary Gold rushes were typically marked by a general buoyant feeling of a "free for all" in income mobility, in which any single individual might become abundantly wealthy almost instantly, as expressed in the California Dream. Gold rushes helped spur a huge immigration that often led to permanent settlement of new regions and define a significant part of the culture of the Australian and North American frontiers. As well, at a time when the world's money supply was based on gold, the newly mined gold provided economic stimulus far beyond the gold fields. Gold rushes presumably extend back as far as gold mining, to the Roman Empire, whose gold mining was described by Diodorus Siculus and Pliny the Elder, and probably further back to Ancient Egypt. A rush typically begins with the discovery of placer gold made by an individual. At first the gold may be washed from the sand and gravel by individual miners with little training, using a gold pan or similar simple instrument. The low investment, the high value per unit weight of gold, and the ability of gold dust and gold nuggets to serve as a medium of exchange, allow placer gold rushes to occur even in remote locations.
