Think back to when you were a little kid. We bet you were able to think up characters and fantasy worlds at will. As we grow up, we tend to use our imaginations less and less. After all, you need hard facts and figures, not unicorns and ninjas when you’re finishing up that report for the meeting. Nonetheless, even when we’re older and wiser our eyes and minds can seemingly play tricks on us. See something out the corner of your eye? Swear you just saw something at the window? Yup, that’s exactly what we are talking about. Today, thanks to the proliferation of cameras and the internet, strange sightings are pretty much a dime a dozen. Many are totally hoaxes, done in a desperate attempt to get likes on Facebook. However, every now and then something inexplicable pops up. In this case we’re talking about strange creatures. You know, the kind that don’t look like anything we’ve ever heard of or were taught about in school? Yup, people are obsessed with strange finds like this and the internet is loaded with all sorts of examples. From underwater oddities to creatures from folklore, more than a few have been captured on camera, leaving people around the world wondering. These following creatures all fit that bill. They come in an assortment of shapes and sizes and will likely leave you wondering what exactly it is you just watched. Breaking Changes - James Coglan - JSConf EU 2018
Semantic Versioning or SemVer has become a de-facto standard in the last few years, with several language ecosystems now relying on it to manage software upgrades. However, it is frequently misunderstood as a technical tool for making cold hard guarantees about code, rather than as a human tool for signaling intent and setting expectations. Never is this more apparent than when we consider what a “breaking change” means. It’s highly contextual: it depends on which language you’re using, what your public interface is, what guarantees you’ve explicitly or implicitly made to users, how much software sits downstream of you, and so on. In this talk I’ll explore several ways you can accidentally break other people’s JavaScript apps, how to avoid them, and what to do when you can’t. OMG JSConf EU is coming back in 2019 https://2019.jsconf.eu/

Breaking News - Stanley Gibbons' investment arm goes into administration
Stanley Gibbons has been the respectable face of the highbrow world of philately – stamp collecting to you and me – since it was founded back in 1856, but its trustworthy reputation has come into question this week.On Tuesday the AIM-listed company confirmed its postage stamp investment business had gone into administration, leaving hundreds of investors who bought rare stamps with the promise of a 'buyback guarantee' in limbo. The Guernsey-based subsidiary is in possession of £12.6million worth of rare stamps but has about £54million of liabilities relating to the buyback guarantees, plus a further £11million in undefined liabilities and another £6.5million which it owes to the parent company. The scheme – which guaranteed customers at least 75 per cent of the book value of their stamps at the end of a given period – was stopped last year amid concerns about just how safe the guarantees were. With Stanley Gibbons revealing last month that it was in default on its bank facilities, investors will be hoping this isn’t the sign of things to come. Shares took a licking, down 26.7 per cent to 5.12p.Toilet roll maker Accrol Group had a bit of a stinker as well after it issued another profit warning and unveiled plans to raise funds through a heavily discounted share placing.Chairman Peter Cheung said the past few weeks had been 'extremely challenging' and the company – which supplies loo and kitchen roll to retailers including Aldi – expects to just about break even or post a slight underlying loss this year.Accrol has suspended its final dividend and axed 89 jobs to cut costs and try to keep it in the black. In the same announcement, the group said it plans to raise £18million through a placing of 36 million shares at 50p each – a steep discount to the stock’s mid-market price of 132p before suspension on 5 October. Unsurprisingly, Accrol shares plunged 71.3 per cent to 39.1p.Those two shockers aside, it’s not been a terrible week for those on the junior market, with the AIM All Share advancing 0.4 per cent, or 3.9 points, to 1,028.7.It was a similar performance from the blue chips this week as the FTSE 100 also added 0.4 per cent, or 26.5 points, to 7,407.2.E-commerce enabler blur Group was one of those lifting the junior market higher following a short but sweet statement on Thursday. The company – which has overhauled its board and raised fresh cash in recent months – told investors it is on an upward trajectory, with third quarter gross profit and revenue ahead of first-half levels.Management expects to see another quarter-on-quarter improvement in the final few months of the year as well, thanks to new customer wins and ‘encouraging’ repeat business. Shares jumped by a third to 6.14p.Bagir Group was another back in fashion this week, more than doubling in value to 2.47p as a major Chinese textile company took a majority stake and agreed to help the tailor win new business.Shangdong Ruyi Technology, one of China’s top 100 multi-national enterprises with listed subsidiaries in China, France and Japan, will invest US$16.5million for a 54 per cent holding. It’s paying 3.5p per share for its holding – a 155 per cent premium to the price before the shares were suspended on Monday but about the same as last December’s fundraising. Since then there have been two profit warnings due to a slowing flow of orders.Bagir boss Eran Itzhak said having Shandong as a key shareholder and partner would enable it to exploit the opportunity presented by its Ethiop1

HSC Art Major Work - Kate Handley 2014
Hey guys, thanks for watching! This is just a short edit of me setting up my Visual Arts Major work in preparation for the 2014 St Johns College Art Exhibition last week. I was also fortunate enough and extremely honoured to win the People's Choice award. Below is the artist's statement attached with the work. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I’ve been surrounded by Cops my entire life. But this isn’t about me. In July 2013, my Father was officially discharged from the New South Wales Police Force with 27 years of service, a crook shoulder, and a doctor’s certificate diagnosing him with chronic depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). But truly, this isn’t about him either. This is about the effects of policing on the police officers themselves. The frustration, the exhaustion, the depression, the injuries - both physical and mental - all to serve the community as they promised to do. Putting everyone before themselves. The graduation photos depict idealistic, young, hopeful and naïve probationary constables, ready for their first day on the job. Over this, sheets of Perspex read the oath of office, sworn by each officer upon their graduation. The shadow created falls across the paper, in some places making the oath distorted, whilst also attempting to shield the police from future encounters. Contrasting this is the large colour drawing of my father, showing the impact of a long policing career on the individual even after the removal of the uniform. This uniform that represents authority also denotes the unrealistic expectation put on police within our community, often leading to a dehumanised approach to officers. Most importantly I feel, are the polaroid photos and each individuals take on the effect that their profession has had on their lives. So please, give time to each one and allow them all to tell their own story."

A new 9th planet for the solar system?
Observations of the orbits of six small objects have led researchers to propose a very large 9th planet--100s of astronomical units (AU) away from the sun. Far enough away that this Neptune-sized planet takes ~15,000 years to complete one orbit. Read more: http://scim.ag/1Ownvti

Crypto - HSC Art Major Work
'Crypto' uses the structure of different perspectives occurring in real time and was created as a Major Work for Visual Arts in Year 12. Artist Statement: Our judgments are defined by our instincts which respond to our emotional stimulus. My work is a reminder to ‘never judge a book by its cover’. Surveillance cameras offer a fixed perspective as a person’s initial response can be stimulated by predetermined social stereotypes. My work is inspired by George Orwell’s dystopian society depicted in his text ‘Nineteen Eighty Four’ where paranoia distorts context and builds mistrust. ‘Crypto’ is an unnerving exploration into this contortion of reality and furthermore our biases within society.

Goodbye Rust Clan Hello Zink (Imformation in description
So a couple of days ago my friend Bizmar left the clan because of our leader telling him he couldn't help other clans so after that happened my friend Plutoh goes into Skype and starts talking to our leader Spez, and he was talking about clearing the roster. So Plutoh says don't kick Crypto please. He said if you kicked Crypto then I leave too, so then a couple of minutes later he said to re roster the whole clan. Then he also said he was kicking me. So then Plutoh said that he was leaving then too. Then we decided to make this clan. Thanks Rust for all the memories and stuff but it's time Plutoh and I move on.

HSC Visual Arts BOW - 'I'm Fine, I'm a Man'
This work was my HSC Visual Arts BOW, which is a time-based piece focusing on a specific unknown part of manhood. Many men's feelings are generally never recognised by society and my work explores this lost idea of teenage male feelings. It was selected MAG&M’s ‘Express Yourself’ exhibition for 2015: https://www.facebook.com/manlyartgallery The video took around 4 weeks to complete, starring Rob, Martin, Ollie and myself. Editing was a tricky process, with over 6 hours of rendering for the warp effect seen on our faces.

Suspense: Mister Markham, Antique Dealer / The ABC Murders / Sorry, Wrong Number - East Coast
One of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, was subtitled "radio's outstanding theater of thrills" and focused on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 are extant. Suspense went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Formula plot devices were followed for all but a handful of episodes: the protagonist was usually a normal person suddenly dropped into a threatening or bizarre situation; solutions were "withheld until the last possible second"; and evildoers were usually punished in the end. In its early years, the program made only occasional forays into science fiction and fantasy. Notable exceptions include adaptations of Curt Siodmak's Donovan's Brain and H. P. Lovecraft's "The Dunwich Horror", but by the late 1950s, such material was regularly featured. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspense_%28radio_drama%29
