Eurasia Mining and Metal Tiger pleased with platinum project progress

07:55
Christian Schaffalitzky, chief executive of Eurasia Mining (LON:EUA) and Metal Tiger’s (LON:MTR) Paul Johnson discuss the Russian-focused miners’ progress at West Kytkim and steps towards first platinum production in 2016. Recent work at the Urals-located deposit has included mine technical design planning, forestry applications and additional exploration to enhance and expand the mine ore feed. Metal Tiger has already invested close to £500,000 in Eurasia and Johnson says it’s possible that further investments may follow. Away from West Kytlim, Eurasia is also developing another deposit – Monchetundra - on the Kola peninsula.
Kola Peninsula an important PGM prospect - Eurasia Mining chief

04:09
Christian Schaffalitzky, managing director and chief executive of Eurasia Mining Plc (LON:EUA), says the Kola peninsula “holds out the prospect of being a very important platinum group metal producing area in the future . Eurasia has a good presence in the Kola region and has a project that’s capable of doing that.” The boss of the PGM exploration and development company spoke to Proactive after announcing positive drill results from its Monchetundra project in the far northwest of Russia, which should lead to defining a reserve estimate. Next steps include producing a resource estimate and further work on metallurgy, hydro-geological and environmental considerations which are all designed to produce a pre-feasibility study for governmental reporting.

South Africa seals mining jobs deal, proposes platinum plan

02:31
Players in the mining industry have declared their commitment to saving jobs. But it's unclear if the declaration signed today can stop a wave of retrenments that threatens to crash down. And union AMCU was once again conspicuous by their absence at the signing ceremony. Up to 19 thousand jobs are at stake - which will worsen the plight of mining communities and is something that South Africa, with an unemployment rate above 25 percent, can ill afford. The Department of Minerals, the Chamber of Mines and Labour representatives all agreed to ten points or interventions. Anglo American announced the sale of three platinum mines

02:23
Mining giant Anglo American has announced the sale of three platinum mines in South Africa to Sibanye Gold for 4.5 billion rand. Sibanye is the country's biggest gold producer. The sale comes as the platinum industry struggles with falling prices and industrial unrest. Two years ago Amplats wanted to close the mines and announced that 14 thousand jobs could be lost. Government threatened to revoke it's licence. It seems that Sibanye now sees value in buying when the platinum price is low - and waiting for things to turn around. Amplats meanwhile will focus on mechanised mines that weren't as hard hit by last years strike action. Seoul prepares for economic cooperation with N. Korea, Far East region

02:00
북방경제협력위원회, 신북방정책방향 4가지목표 설정...남북경협 기반 마련 With growing anticipation for better ties with North Korea,... South Korea has laid out its vision for economic cooperation,... and it involves working with other countries in the region, especially on infrastructure projects. Oh Soo-young explains. Seoul plans to lay the groundwork for economic cooperation with North Korea,... by partnering with regional neighbours including Russia. On Monday, the Presidential Committee on Northern Economic Cooperation announced four major goals,... and fourteen specific targets,... to achieve the Moon Jae-in government's so-called "New Northern Policy." The initiative aims to eventually connect South and North Korea to the wider Far East region,... through joint projects in economic cooperation, energy, transport and other sectors. Such efforts in the past had stalled as the government's plans depended heavily on North Korea's participation. According to the presidential committee, that is why Seoul hopes to soon launch projects with Russia to pave the way for cooperation with the North, once it's ready to come on board. The most notable sectors include connecting railroads, power grids and gas pipelines,... which would stretch from the Korean Peninsula to Russia's Far East. But some of the most immediate sectors include ICT, health care, and tourism,... especially as Russian energy firms face a number of U.S. and EU sanctions. "We plan to build an innovation platform to support efforts for research and development as well as commercialization,... for small-and-medium sized businesses that integrate Russia's core technology and our production technology." Seoul also plans to support Central Asian countries with agricultural and financial technology. "As inter-Korean relations improve and the North takes steps to denuclearize,... leading to the easing of sanctions,... hopes are high that it will soon play an active role in efforts to build the peace and economic prosperity of Northeast Asia and Eurasia. China's trillion dollar plan to dominate global trade

It's about more than just economics. To learn more, visit https://reconnectingasia.csis.org/map/ Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO China's Belt and Road Initiative is the most ambitious infrastructure project in modern history. It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. Migration and Violent Extremism in Eurasia: An Integrated Approach to Preventing Radicalization

01:37:37
Migration and Violent Extremism in Eurasia: An Integrated Approach to Preventing Radicalization Uzbekistan who permanently or seasonally migrate for work, to Kazakhstan and Russia. As host countries enforce strict regulations on migrants’ activities and freedom of movement, and upon return to their home country, these populations face social isolation and religious discrimination from their communities and governments. With many of the global terrorist events of the past two years carried out by Kyrgyz and Uzbek migrants, it is becoming critical to understand the drivers of radicalization of migrant communities in the region. Panelists will focus on the multiple forms of vulnerabilities faced by Central Asian migrants, the importance of social bonds, and how they relate to violent extremism, as well as how increased access to justice and human rights protection, especially with respect to religious freedom, can help to reduce radicalization. The discussion will also highlight research by SFCG examining individual and systemic factors driving violent extremism among Central Asian migrants in Russia and effective programming, approaches by ABA ROLI to reintegrating returning migrants to Kyrgyzstan, and research and program findings of the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operation in the U.S. Department of State. Panelists: Michael Shipler Regional Director of Asia Programs, SFCG Ryan Gibson Conflict and Stabilization Advisor, U.S. Department of State (Contractor with IEA Corp) Kalmurat Dzhangaziev Vice-Rector of International Affairs, International University of Kyrgyzstan Ayaz Baetov Senior Legal Advisor, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, ABA ROLI Moderator: Jennifer Tsai Senior Advisor, ABA ROLI

As this 2014 piece from Global Mining Observer explains, Kaizen was born when private surveying specialist HPX TechCo, controlled by Robert Friedland, took on the TSX listing of Concordia Resource in 2013. Several members of the management team at Friedland's Ivanhoe Mines (TSX:IVN), including Hornor and esteemed explorer Dr. David Broughton, stepped up to head Kaizen, and the company has been making big moves in the junior mining space ever since. In recent months, Kaizen has been putting out drill results from its Aspen Grove project in British Columbia and advancing permitting at its Coppermine project in Nunavut. It has also announced a transaction to acquire the Pinaya copper-gold project in Peru. Certainly, Kaizen has been keeping busy despite a tough market. And while copper prices haven't been favourable, Hornor saw opportunity in the current bear market. "As the base metal markets and the commodity markets continue to go the way they're going, that only provides more opportunities for Kaizen to get involved and pick up interesting assets at lower costs," he said. "We're in this for the long term." Hornor spoke about Kaizen's strategic partnership with Japanese trading house ITOCHU, what investors can expect next from the company this year and what it takes for junior mining companies to achieve exploration success. Echoing what others in the space have said, Hornor chalked up the successes of Ivanhoe and Kaizen to having the right people in place. "Robert Friedland has had a lot of success in his life, but it's not by dumb luck," he said. "There's been many opportunities and projects that have come across our tables - we're looking at thousands and thousand of them - and really having the right team in place who knows what to look for, and what they're looking at, is key." Watch the video above for more of what Hornor had to say. Interestingly, the CEO also speaks about why he left his position as a senior associate at an international law firm in Japan to join Ivanhoe and Kaizen.

Russia Will Deliver Oil and Gas to Hungary “Even Through Twists and Turns”

09:08
Subscribe to Vesti News https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa8MaD6gQscto_Nq1i49iew?sub_confirmation=1 On Thursday, Russian President Putin paid a visit to Hungary where he held talks with the country's Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The leaders’ conversation was based on a common understanding of global and regional challenges. A mutual liking of each other was felt. But for the European Union it was a real shake-up, as Viktor Orban is an enfant terrible for the EU, because he strongly disagrees with Angela Merkel's migration policies as well as with many other issues. If this stance is combined with the traditional Hungarian firmness of character, one can imagine how annoying Budapest is for the Brussels bureaucrats now. Orban was even once told that if they had been discussing Hungary's admission to the EU at that moment, the country would have never become a member. Given the background of Putin's upcoming visit to Budapest, the title of the Süddeutsche Zeitung isn't surprising - ”The two men, who can split the EU”. The article described the horrors of Russia, and in the end, it had a muddy bashing on Russian diplomats, who supposedly support the radical right-wing groups in Hungary and even taught them to shoot from air rifles. Generally, it is the German press that gives the most hostile coverage of the meeting between Putin and Orban in Budapest. Die Welt even imputes to the Russian and Hungarian leaders the fact of being men of their word. And this is thought to be rather old-fashioned. They both tend to address issues in an old-fashioned way - through a handshake of two men whose word is a law.

Mongolia and Korea working together to tackle desertification

02:35
몽골 사막화 현상에서 한국 역할 Let's take it back to Mongolia now... The Asian nation is struggling to contain the effects of desertification,... a problem which contributes to the yellow dust storms Korea has to face every now and again. Our Connie Kim traveled to Mongolia to see the steps both countries are taking to try and turn the tide. Rapid desertification has made life in the vast Mongolian desert dunes even harder for nomads who are used to the arid conditions. "This area has completely changed. Yellow dust storms are getting worse so the trees are disappearing and the sand dunes have been moving. It's these sand dunes that cover 40-percent of Mongolia's territory,... and even worse,... almost all of Mongolia is suffering from rapid desertification. " Human activity, especially mining is said to be the biggest reason causing Mongolia's desertification,... but rehabilitation projects are bringing green back to the country. In this Bagannur mine located south of the capital city mine rehabilitation projects are underway,... and this is where Korea comes in for joint cooperation. "Mongolia is rich in natural resources, but has less awareness in mine rehabilitation. Environmentally friendly development is needed. We opened an office here in 2010 and are currently working with the Mongolian government. " It is a mammoth task. Come the rainy season, rain combines with exposed minerals… and flows into nearby lakes and rivers, polluting them. "When the mining is complete, the area is flattened so that we can cover the area with soil and plant trees. We are also purifying nearby lakes that have been polluted with wastewater." The rolling green areas are where debris from mining development have been flattened and covered with soil so grass can take hold. Six mines have undergone the rehabilitation process since MIRECO opened its office in Mongolia in 2010. Through years of joint work, Mongolian workers have learned basic mine rehabilitation techniques such as flattening debris piles and covering them with soil. "With that, the two countries' ultimate aim is to build convenient facilities for area residents and convert enough land for renewable energy development in the long term. Marin Katusa's Warning to Uranium Investors

03:19
This video presents Marin Katusa’s warning to uranium investors regarding which jurisdictions he considers unsafe and which he recommends. Marin Katusa is a professional investor and founder of Katusa Research, an independent investment research firm specializing in the natural resource sector. Marin currently considers uranium to be the ultimate contrarian play for the natural resource speculator. Assessing the jurisdiction of a mining company before investing is crucial for the investor. The ideal jurisdiction is a safe and politically stable country with low tax rates. Unlike other industries which can choose to relocate their business, a mining company cannot relocate their mineral deposit. Therefore, if a government becomes unfriendly or too burdensome to the mining company or the host nation becomes unsafe, the company and its investors can lose most or all of the value of their mineral deposit in that country. The following quote by Marin Katusa comes from a February 8th, 2017 interview with Frank Curzio: “I want to warn all your viewers: don’t waste your time in any nation where the Chinese or Russians have an influence. The laws the Chinese and Russian companies follow are very different than the American company laws. So don’t even bother. We are showing up to a gun fight with chop sticks. So don’t even bother. Stay focused where our rule of law matters. I wouldn’t touch any uranium in Europe. I wouldn’t touch it in Africa or Central Asia. Or Eurasia--I wouldn’t bother. The Russians have a grasp…the Chinese have a grasp in those regions. Stick to two regions in my opinion: North America and there are certain countries in South America. But really where grade is king, the Athabasca basin, and where it is low-cost production for domestic demand…You want to be in the low-cost quartile and the top quartile of grade.” Also, see our interview with Daniel Major, CEO of Goviex Uranium, an Africa-focused Uranium company, where he discusses concerns about Africa as a jurisdication and specifically addresses Marin's objection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1wGHyp3CeY Sign up for our free newsletter and receive interview transcripts, stock recommendations and investment ideas: http://eepurl.com/cHxJ39www.MiningStockEducation.com The content found on MiningStockEducation.com is for informational purposes only and is not to be considered personal legal or investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell securities or any other product.
