Wild burros of Cripple Creek Colorado

01:12
As we were driving out of town, we saw these four wild donkeys (burros) eating clover in this empty lot and stopped to interact. They were so friendly! Unfortunately, I didn't film how much they liked the fruit I had in the truck. They loved the organic peaches, cherries and oranges! Someone stopped by with alfalfa pellets for us to feed them, but after they had the fruit, they spit the pellets out!

Hugo, Colorado, Not Really Plain, But On The Plains -- A Look Beyond Mainstreet at Hugo Colorado

07:27
You see it's not really plain----but it's on the plains..... It's a place with, well....quite a history, but certainly not a place that's almost history, but at first glance you're likely to overlook it if you blink just long enough. But, If you're paying attention, you'd see it ---- --between Dallas and Denver if you're driving a truck...maybe on a family vacation or on business Look west on a clear day and you'd see the Rocky Mountains—just about 120 miles away. You'd already be over 5000 feet high, but the plains seem to stretch out forever. You'd be on US Highways 287 /40 just about 14 miles south of the intersection with Interstate 70. The highway runs parallel to the Union Pacific Railroad, typically hauling grain from farms near small towns like this one—taking wheat, corn and sunflower oil to market, across those endless plains to feed people who live a much faster, hectic life in larger cities— ---those who may never discover what 732 residents and retirees plus countless farmers and ranchers and their families nearby know about HUGO, Colorado—the Lincoln County Seat. 287 / 40 run right through downtown --all 10 blocks of it -- bordered on one side by a city park with a parallel parking lot big enough to share space several 18-wheelers, RVs, or the family SUVs and give you a chance for a cat nap, a potti break, a stretch or a place to enjoy a picnic lunch.---Even explore main street! Across from the park you'll conveniently find the bank with an ATM There's a restaurant, with more than a taste of local hospitality, You'll find two of the four specialty antique and collectible shops in town, There's a fully stocked local grocery store with nice people and an equally nice selection of fresh produce, and you'll find the local flavors of the town tavern, too. Also on main street you'll find the lumber yard and hardware store a bit closer to the road than the grain elevator, and just north of the park and west of the tracks, you'll see an old brick roundhouse---one of only two brick Union Pacific examples in Colorado---it's under renovation and will soon house an event center and a museum. On one end of town, you'll notice the school—that just received a grant to expand into a 10-million dollar regional educational complex. It's just a block north of the only hotel get there early if you plan to get a room—(end of chuckle)-they go fast out here. The County Fair Grounds is right there on the south-east end of town. It's home of the Colorado Championship Ranch Rodeo, The Lincoln County Fair, and other events throughout the year. In between there and the school, you'll see the phone company offices and the city pool—you can't miss it--it's a blue and white art deco-style building, open to residents as well as visitors just-passin' through --you might just enjoy a refreshing dip There's an old Union Pacific Passenger Depot that has been restored and moved and another city park built alongside just for kids---you'll see them both on the Northeast side of the highway. Unless you do a little exploring, you're likely to miss the first class, regional medical facility with it's own heliport, plus the nearby assisted living facility. Community churches dot the town and the neighborhoods hold some real gems Lincoln County Court House and correctional complex----rounds out what at first seems like a quiet little town---- one that over two million cars and trucks pass through annually. If you visit the park, you might be lucky enough to run into Richard—one of the residents , just out for a walk----who, along with his wife Margie, discovered Hugo, Colorado just in time for retirement, Richard Interview here. Everything you'd need, and friendly to new business and economic development --the kind that will provide the rest of everything you might want. It's small, and the hearty folks who live here still treat each other like friends---a sort of extended family. You see, It's been here since 1909 and Hugo, Colorado plans to be around for another hundred years. So the next time you're out this way, We invite you to stop and discover why instead of just passin' by.

Forgotten Colorado (Vol 5.) Farm Of The Fortunate Son

01:59
This is the farm of the fortunate son. The story goes... The son of this farm was an only child and had to work extra hard growing up. Because of that he escaped his harsh reality by joining the military. The son came home form war (Vietnam) one summer night during a heavy and much needed thunderstorm. Splashing threw the puddles of the drive to the house he hesitated, put his truck in park and opened the door to the rain and stepped out. A crack of thunder made him drop to his knees and search for cover. He stood back up, reached into the bed and grabbed his duffle bag and made his way toward the house. The thought of a warm bed and a home cooked meal made the hard hot days on the farm seem like a vacation from war. He pulled open the screen and turned the handle to the front door and pushed. The sound of laughter drowned out the cracks of thunder. He flashed back to days with his mother who had passed when he was 7 from fever. He ran to the doorway to see his father with his former grammar school teacher. A woman his mother hated before her death and a woman who would pick on him because of it. His eyes then caught his fathers hand touch her very pregnant belly as he leaned in to kiss her. He immediate turned and walked to his father's truck. Grabbed his fathers shotgun, busted in the front door cocked the shotgun and as his father walked into the doorway of the kitchen there eyes met for the first time in 2 years. The father smiled and lifted his arms to welcome him home. Then the boom of the shotgun knocked him back across the kitchen floor. Cocking the shotgun again his hated school teacher now screaming hysterically turned and ran out the back door. Terrified and ran into the field as fast as she could. Pausing when she felt it was safe she fell to her knees. The crack of lightning illuminated the house. Before she knew it she was being dragged threw the mud back to the house. The son then strung a rope over this now fallen tree and secured it to her neck. The son then disappeared to the barn. Hearing in town that the son was home the uncle headed to the homestead. Pulling up to the house he saw the pregnant woman in the tree by the crack of the lightning. He jumped out of the truck and ran to the house. Finding the father dead in the kitchen he grabbed the shotgun on the counter and headed out the back door. Seeing the yellow truck driving up from the barn he ran threw the rain and mud to investigate. As soon as the son saw the uncle he turned the truck around slipping in the mud. The uncle screamed for him to stop then got in his path . The son revved up the truck and tried to run down his uncle. 3 shots threw the windshield killing the son. Cabin in Buena Vista, Colorado

02:01
Located in Buena Vista, Colorado, this quiet cabin is surrounded by tall trees and has a seasonal brook running through area. Within easy walking and biking distance from most of the highlights of Buena Vista -- from Arkansas River to parks and downtown dining. And yet this is an extremely quiet and secluded area . It's like living in your own private forest in the middle of a small town that grew up around it. This is a investment property that can make as much as $80 per night . No long term stays.

I’ll be telling you about Bigfoot – and over at Haunting Stories they’ve posted another video, with me narrating a continuation of this regarding the Minnesota Iceman! Be sure to check out their video right after you watch this one! This is Weird Darkness – where you’ll find creepypastas, ghost stories, unsolved mysteries, crytptids like Bigfoot, and other stories of the strange and bizarre. Feel free to share your own creepy story at WeirdDarkness.com, I might use it in a future episode! Now.. sit back, turn down the lights, and come with me into the Weird Darkness! It all started with a bunch of footprints at a construction site. Or at least the modern-day fascination with “Bigfoot” did. Stories of hairy giants in the woods and wandering “wild men” had been a part of American lore for nearly two centuries by the time the nickname “Bigfoot” was coined in the late 1950s. But it was then, with the advent of television and the modern media, that chasing down giants in the woods became a national craze. It was the spring of 1957 and a road construction project was underway near Bluff Creek in northern California. The project was run by a contractor named Ray Wallace and his brother, Wilbur. They hired thirty men that summer to work on the project and by late in the season, Wilbur Wallace reported that something had been throwing around some metal oil drums at the work site. When winter arrived that year, cold weather brought the work to a halt, even though only ten miles of road had been completed. In early spring 1958, some odd tracks were discovered near the Mad River close to Korbel, California. Some of the locals believed they were bear tracks. As it happened, this was close to another work site that was managed by the Wallace brothers. Later on that spring, work started up again on the road near Bluff Creek. A number of new men were hired, including Jerry Crew, who drove more than two hours each weekend so he could be home with his family. Ten more miles of road were constructed, angling up across the face of a nearby mountain. On August 3, 1958, Wilbur Wallace stated that something threw a seven-hundred-pound spare tire to the bottom of a deep gully near the work site. This incident was reported later in the month, after the discovery of the footprints. On August 27, Jerry Crew arrived for work early in the morning and found giant, manlike footprints pressed into the dirt all around his bulldozer. He was at first upset by the discovery, thinking that someone was playing a practical joke on him, but then he decided to report what he found to Wilbur Wallace. At this point, the footprints had not been made public. That occurred on September 21, when Mrs. Jess Bemis, the wife of one of the Bluff Creek work crew, wrote a letter to Andrew Genzoli, the editor of a local newspaper. Genzoli published her husband's "Big Foot" story and caught the attention of others in the area. One of these was Betty Allen, a newspaper reporter who suggested in a late September column that plaster casts should be made of the footprints. She had already talked to local Native Americans and interviewed residents about hairy giants in the area. She convinced Genzoli to run other stories and letters about Bigfoot. This would be the beginning of a story that would capture the imagination of America. On October 1 and 2, Jerry Crew discovered more tracks, very similar to the first ones. In response to the new discovery, two workers quit and Wilbur Wallace allegedly introduced his brother Ray to the situation for the first time, bringing him out to show him the tracks. On the day after the last tracks were found, Jerry Crew made plaster casts of the footprints, with help from his friend Bob Titmus and reporter Betty Allen. He was irritated that people were making fun of him and wanted to offer the casts as evidence that he wasn’t making the whole thing up. On October 5, Andrew Genzoli published his now-famous story about "Bigfoot." It was picked up worldwide by the wire services, and soon the term was being used in general conversation.

Grover Norquist Thinks Vaping Will Make The GOP Cool (HBO)

05:06
Grover Norquist is a conservative. He is not a vaper. But he thinks vaping could make conservatism cool again. Norquist is the president of the conservative group Americans for Tax Reform. He thinks vaping could help remake the Republican Party into the party of young people. His pitch is pretty simple — vapers love to vape, and Democrats are on the side of stricter regulations on vaping and higher taxes on vaping products. Norquist says that when Republicans promise to make vaping easier to do and cheaper, they can win vapers who would normally vote for Democrats. VICE News took Norquist to a DC vape shop to test his theory. The Life and Adventures of Nat Love by Nat Love | Audio book with subtitles

04:23:41
The Life and Adventures of Nat Love Nat LOVE Nat Love was born a slave, emancipated into abject poverty, grew up riding the range as a cowboy and spent his maturity riding the rails as a Pullman Porter. For me, the most amazing thing about him is that despite the circumstances of his life, which included being owned like a farm animal solely because of the color of his skin and spending later decades living and working as an equal with white coworkers, he was an unrepentant racist! Convinced that the only good Indian was a dead one, and that all Mexicans were "greasers" and/or "bums," he rarely passed up a chance to shoot a member of either group, whether in self-defense or cold blood, and shows no sign of having appreciated the difference. At one point, he fell in love with a Mexican girl but, apparently unable to tolerate this reality, considered her "Spanish." Nat Love was a fascinating character who lived in equally interesting times, and one only wishes his autobiography was much longer and more detailed. summary by ohsostrange Genre(s): Biography & Autobiography Audio Book Audiobooks All Rights Reserved. In the beginning of the Golden Age, American radio network programs were almost exclusively broadcast live, as the national networks prohibited the airing of recorded programs until the late 1940s because of the inferior sound quality of phonograph discs, the only practical recording medium. As a result, prime-time shows would be performed twice, once for each coast. However, "reference recordings" were made of many programs as they were being broadcast, for review by the sponsor and for the network's own archival purposes. With the development of high-fidelity magnetic wire and tape recording in the years following World War II, the networks became more open to airing recorded programs and the prerecording of shows became more common. Local stations, however, had always been free to use recordings and sometimes made substantial use of prerecorded syndicated programs distributed on pressed (as opposed to individually recorded) transcription discs. Recording was done using a cutting lathe and acetate discs. Programs were normally recorded at 33⅓ rpm on 16 inch discs, the standard format used for such "electrical transcriptions" from the early 1930s through the 1950s. Sometimes, the groove was cut starting at the inside of the disc and running to the outside. This was useful when the program to be recorded was longer than 15 minutes so required more than one disc side. By recording the first side outside in, the second inside out, and so on, the sound quality at the disc change-over points would match and result in a more seamless playback. An inside start also had the advantage that the thread of material cut from the disc's surface, which had to be kept out of the path of the cutting stylus, was naturally thrown toward the center of the disc so was automatically out of the way. When cutting an outside start disc, a brush could be used to keep it out of the way by sweeping it toward the middle of the disc. Well-equipped recording lathes used the vacuum from a water aspirator to pick it up as it was cut and deposit it in a water-filled bottle. In addition to convenience, this served a safety purpose, as the cellulose nitrate thread was highly flammable and a loose accumulation of it combusted violently if ignited. Most recordings of radio broadcasts were made at a radio network's studios, or at the facilities of a network-owned or affiliated station, which might have four or more lathes. A small local station often had none. Two lathes were required to capture a program longer than 15 minutes without losing parts of it while discs were flipped over or changed, along with a trained technician to operate them and monitor the recording while it was being made. However, some surviving recordings were produced by local stations.[7][8] When a substantial number of copies of an electrical transcription were required, as for the distribution of a syndicated program, they were produced by the same process used to make ordinary records. A master recording was cut, then electroplated to produce a stamper from which pressings in vinyl (or, in the case of transcription discs pressed before about 1935, shellac) were molded in a record press. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_time_radio
