Chloride Ghost Town - Arizona

04:17
Chloride, Arizona was founded in 1862 with the discovery of silver ore and is an old mining camp that never quite died. Silver, Gold, lead, zinc, and turquoise have been found in the area. Today some of the mines are privately owned while others are on public land. At one time there was over 72 mines operating in Chloride. The name Chloride came from the silver chloride found in the hills among other minerals in the area. Silver chloride is used in photographic emulsions and antiseptic silver solutions. Chloride is the oldest continuously inhabited mining town in the state of Arizona.

Chloride City is a ghost town in Inyo County, California, USA. It is located 8.5 miles (14 km) north-northeast of Beatty Junction, at an elevation of 4,770 ft (1,450 m). The former settlement is now in Death Valley National Park. The town was established in 1905 when the Bullfrog, Nevada, gold discovery brought people into the area. The ghost town contains numerous adits, dumps, and the grave of James McKay, of whom nothing is known. The town also holds the remains of three stamp mills. Chloride City Death Valley

32:48
Chloride City is located on the northern end of the Funeral Mountains in a remote part of Death Valley. We drove this road on April 20, 2018. This is an interesting drive that takes one to a the site (still a few crumbled ruins about including a “Cousin Jack”, many old mine portals and even a “mysterious” Grave. The town was established in 1905 when the Bullfrog, Nevada, gold discovery brought people into the area. The Death Valley National Park website describes it this way: “It became a ghost town the following year. There are numerous adits and dumps in the area and one grave of a James McKay, of whom nothing is known. In addition, there are remains of 3 stamp mills. It is located off a four wheel drive road 3.5 miles east of Hell’s Gate or off the dirt road 7 miles further east at the Park boundary.” We accessed this road at the approximate 3.5 mile mark east of Hells gate. Traveling either direction this road is at first not easy to find. We drove right past it the first time traveling east. Turned around and found it “barely” coming back down (west) toward Devils Gate. Heading east (upgrade) the road is located off a curve and turns to the right. Downgrade (west) it leaves the road to the left. The road is listed in some descriptions as high clearance 2wheel drive. I had my High clearance Jeep so used 4 wheel drive and I would recommend it if you do drive this road, it was much smoother on the loose rock and steep sections. The road condition to the site of Chloride and the grave is not bad as you will see in the video. Just use caution as always. Past the Ghost town the roads are much steeper, have bigger rocks and very steep drop offs (shelf roads). Also, many old mines adits and structures are scattered in the area and the roads to these and untamed as well. I used low range 4x4, and for ease and less slipping the lockers a few times. With that all said, enjoy a trip to Chloride City and area located in Death Valley National Park.

The Mayor of a Ghost Town (Population: 1)

05:44
Welcome to Ballarat, California, population one. Located in the heart of the unforgiving Death Valley, the former mining supply town has been abandoned for nearly 100 years. Were it not for Rock Novak, the town’s only resident, Ballarat would belong to the vultures. “I’m the caretaker, the mayor, the sheriff, the judge, and the undertaker [of Ballarat],” Novak says in Mickey Todiwala and Monika Delgado’s short documentary, The Mayor of Ballarat. “I like it out here. It’s peaceful, quiet…you do as you want.” Read more: https://www.theatlantic.com/video/index/564557/ballarat/ "The Mayor of Ballarat" was directed by Mickey Todiwala and Monika Delgado. Exploring Two Abandoned Mines at Chloride, Arizona: Jupiter Mine and Uncle Abe Mine

03:32
We spent a day exploring two of the many scenic mines around Chloride, Arizona. The Jupiter Mine had several portals. The portal we entered had thousands of flies in it. We discovered a flooded vertical shaft back in the Jupiter Mine that was probably a breeding ground or source of food for the flies. The Uncle Abe Mine featured massive tailing piles; however, the main portal was collapsed and impassable.

Travel Guide New Mexico tm Ghost Towns New Mexico

08:58
The Land of Enchantment still echos with voices from its colorful past. These voices speak especially clearly from the ghost towns, mining camps, and little-known places that populate New Mexico's landscape. New Mexico's story is rich with history, from the Ancient Puebloan Indians, to Spanish explorers, pioneers traveling along the Santa Fe Trail, and prospectors in the 19th century. These many folks left their "footprints," not only along the many old trails in the "Land of Enchantment," but also on the many ruins and ghost towns that remain. Cuchillo, established by ranchers and farmers in the 1850s, was named for a nearby creek and a local Apache chief, Cuchillo Negro (Black Knife). Midway between the mines at Chloride and Winston and the railroad at Engle, it flourished as a stage stop and trade center from the 1880s to the 1930s. Charming original buildings still stand, including the Cuchillo Bar and Store, and San Jose Catholic Church, built in 1907 Chloride was founded in 1880. Englishman Harry Pye had discovered silver ore there in the late 1870s, and soon after Pye was killed by Apaches, word of the silver find got out. Despite the threat of Indian attacks Chloride grew to over 3,000 people. In its heyday it had nine saloons, a general store, a dry goods store, a millinery shop, a restaurant, a butcher shop, a candy store, a pharmacy, a Chinese laundry, a photography studio, a school, and two hotels. The Black Range newspaper was printed in Chloride from 1882 to 1896. Of the nearly 500 surveyed mines and prospect holes in the Apache Mining District, a dozen or so made big mines, including the Silver Monument, the U.S. Treasury, and the St. Cloud, which is still in operation, though not mining silver. The demise of Chloride began with the Silver Panic of 1893 and was hastened by the presidential election of 1896, which resulted in a drastic decline in silver prices. Many of Chloride's original structures still stand. The old Pioneer Store is now a museum; next door the former Monte Cristo Saloon and Dance Hall houses a gift shop and gallery featuring work by local artists. Both are open seven days a week from 10am-4pm. Harry Pye's cabin is available as a vacation rental. Other landmarks in this tiny town (population 11) include the 200-year-old Hanging Tree and Doodle Dum, the workshop of longtime resident Cassie Hobbs (19041989). Hillsboro was born in 1877 when gold was found at the nearby Opportunity and Ready Pay mines. Despite fierce Indian attacks, the town grew, becoming the county seat in 1884. Area mines produced more than $6 million in gold and silver, and by 1907 the town had a population of 1,200. Today, this charming, peaceful village of a hundred souls, which boasts flower-filled yards and old cottonwoods lining the main street, offers many enticements, including gift shops; restaurants; artist studios and galleries; the remains of the old county courthouse; the Black Range Museum; Union Church; and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Hillsboros Heritage Day is held annually on the day before Mother's Day. Kingston was founded when a rich lode of silver ore was discovered at the Solitaire in 1882. It grew rapidly and was the largest town in the territory—and one of the wildest in the Wild West. The town soon offered all of the trappings of civilization and culture. Numerous hotels played host to the likes of Mark Twain, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Black Jack Ketchum. Stage lines served all major routes, and the town supported twenty-three saloons, some of which advertised fresh oysters 24 hours a day! The town also had 14 grocery and general stores; a brewery; three newspapers; and an Opera House where the Lillian Russell Troupe once performed. Albert Bacon Fall and Ed Doheny of the Teapot Dome Scandal got their start in Kingston. From those glory days, the old Assay Office and the remains of the Victorio Hotel have been renovated as private residences. The Black Range Lodge, a bed and breakfast, offers accommodations in a setting of massive stonewalls and log-beamed ceilings constructed from the ruins of what once was Pretty Sam's Casino. Some Kingston residents offer straw-bale and natural building workshops

OATMAN ARIZONA ~ OLD MINING GHOST TOWN [HD]

02:45
April 6, 2012. I spent an afternoon in Oatman Arizona on historic route 66 (Oatman Hwy) about 28 miles from Kingman AZ. This town was founded a gold mining community in the very early 1900s. Just recently in 2008, the Gold Road Mine in the area was reopened for business, as gold prices are now quite high, making it profitable once again. It seems the town itself is thriving on tourism alone, most of whole Oatman Arizona downtown area is souvenir shops, antique shoppes, restaurants, etc. If you're through this way, off I-40 at Kingman AZ, you might want to take this trip into Oatman AZ. There's a gunfight (actors) in the street a couple times a day, like 12 noon and 2:15pm, something like that. There's a lot of wild donkeys (borros) that roam about town begging for food. There's one place I went into there in Oatman Arizona that I felt for sure is haunted (among other obvious haunted historic places nearby), a very strong presence there. I didn't include it among the video clips here.

YUCCA AZ ~ old Arizona Mining Town

05:39
July 19, 2012. Mark Allen reporting for 4guests.com. I was out this way to check on the opening of the UFO home musuem (aka Golf Ball House). The gates were locked, so I don't know what's going on with that situation. So, anyway, I decided to stop over in Yucca AZ to look around. It's a very small town, just a couple hundred in population. A few structures were interesting to look over and photograph. A Yucca resident talked to me about the town, how it started out as a mine community, mining for copper, silver, gold. Later a gunnery, military training for aircraft pilots, shooting machine guns and such from planes. In modern times it was the area where the Ford and Chrysler proving grounds operated, with I think Chryler still in operation, testing their vehicles. It was getting late in the day, so I didn't cover everything. Saw the itsy bitsy Yucca Post Office, the Yucca Elementary School (with the letter S about falling off the sign), the Yucca Baptist Church, some old Yucca Mission building that looked abandoned long ago, and some old antiquated houses from long ago. This place has very much a feel of an old ghost town with just sprinkles of indications of life. The local bar, the Honolulu Club had two customers at the bar. I went in to get an energy drink, didn't have Monster, so I settled for Red Bull. Anyway, a big hello to all the small independent film and video makers, journalists, youtubers, CrackHeadSally, BillyBobTruckDriver, George4title (G4T), Alex Jones (aka Bonehead Paranoid Fearmonger), Peter Schiff (stuttering and repetitively talking about the Fed printing too much money), Marc Faber (who laughs at Americans), Jim Rogers (Chinese American Citizen Billionaire), as well to all the tons of friends everywhere around the world in which I am way too busy to talk to. Remember everyone, Buy Silver and Gold. Why? Because millions of adult children living in the basement of their Mom's house believe it is the best thing to do. I may be out in the area again to do some metal detecting with the Fisher Gold Bug 2 (II) metal detector, maybe find some gold nuggets, relics, etc No, this high definition (HD) video is not about Yucca Valley California (CA). Berlin Ghost Town | Historic Abandoned Mining Town | Nevada | USA | HD

03:38
Berlin Historic District encompasses the ghost town of Berlin in Nye County, Nevada. The town was established in 1897 as part of the Union Mining District after the opening of the Berlin Mine the previous year. The name is a transfer from Berlin, in Germany, the native land of a share of the local prospectors. The town never prospered to the same extent as other boom towns like Tonopah and Goldfield, and declined following the Panic of 1907. The town was largely abandoned by 1911.
