5 Mistakes Investors Make with ETFs | Fidelity

04:43
In this video, learn about the five biggest mistakes that investors make when buying ETFs, or exchange-traded funds. To learn the basics about ETFs, visit https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/investment-products/etf/overview. To get started investing with ETFs, visit https://www.fidelity.com/etfs/overview To see more videos from Fidelity Investments, subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/fidelityinvestments Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fidelityinvestments Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/fidelity Google+: https://plus.google.com/+fidelity LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/fidelity-investments --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let’s talk about the five biggest mistakes investors can make when buying exchange-traded funds. ETFs can be good tools for investors - when used appropriately. But with any investment, there are always things to watch out for. Number 1: Buying the Hot New Thing More than 100 new ETF products launch each year, many of them chasing the latest hot trend. Cloud computing, driverless cars, 3-D printing … you name it, there’s an ETF for that. Buying into the latest hot theme might make you big returns, but take care: These product launches may come after there has been a run up in the market. Buying at the top can be painful on the way down. Number 2: Buying Something You Don’t Understand The only thing worse than chasing the hottest trend is buying something you don’t understand. ETFs have taken institutional strategies and made them push-button-easy for everyday investors to access. Want access to commodity futures? There’s an ETF for that. 300% leverage? 200% short? Interest-rate carry plays? Yes to all. But just because you can buy something easily doesn’t mean you should. All of these funds may be good tools, but only if you know how to use them correctly. Number 3: Thinking All ETFs Are Created Equal Consider China. At the start of 2014, there were more than a dozen broad-based China ETFs. For example, had you chosen PGJ, the PowerShares Golden Dragon China ETF, at the start of the year, you would have lost more than 7% of your money. Had you instead chosen ASHR, the Deutsche Xtrackers Harvest CSI 300 China A-Shares ETF, you would have earned a 51% return. Both are “China ETFs.” Both can provide big, diversified portfolios. But ASHR has significant exposure to Chinese Ashares—largely consumer-focused stocks listed and traded on the domestic Chinese market— which performed spectacularly well in 2014. Don’t assume all ETFs are created equal. Just because two ETFs cover the same market doesn’t mean they provide the same exposure or returns. There’s no guarantee which fund will perform better in the future. But if you wanted to invest last year in the growth of the Chinese consumer and the domestic investor base there, a little bit of research would have gone a long way. Number 4: Trading…Just Because You Can Trading is central to ETFs. It’s right there in the name. But just because you can trade an ETF intraday doesn’t mean you should. Emotions are often an investor’s worst enemy. You zig when you should zag; you sell at the bottom and buy at the top. We all do sometimes. The trouble is ETFs make that even easier than traditional mutual funds. ETFs’ intraday liquidity can be great when you need to get into or out of the market quickly. But those situations are rare. Number 5: Only Using Market Orders When you do invest, consider using a limit order versus a market order. Market orders are instructions to buy or sell securities at the best possible price right now. That can work well for the most liquid ETFs, but as you move beyond the top dozen ETFs, you can find yourself getting trades executed at prices you don’t really want. Using a limit order means you agree to buy an ETF at a certain price or below, and sell it at a certain price or above. A limit order puts the control back in your hands and can help you set the price on your terms. Learn from these common mistakes to help avoid making them yourself. How Do You Trade ETFs? | Fidelity

This video will teach you the basics of trading ETFs. It’s a great question. The fact that ETFs trade on an exchange like stocks is one of their biggest selling points. It means you can trade any time the market’s open, rather than waiting until the end of the day like you do with traditional mutual funds. You can also trade an ETF the same way you would trade any stock: You can buy it on margin, if you have that feature in your account. You can even short sell most ETFs. But this liquidity comes with several costs which are important to keep in mind when you’re investing in ETFs. Let’s talk more about two of these costs…The first cost is obvious: the commission. Like with any stock, you have to pay a commission when you buy or sell an ETF. This can really add up if you trade a lot. Imagine, for instance, that each month you invest $1,000 into a basket of five different ETFs. Five times $7.95 per trade is close to 40 dollars, or 4% of your total investment. The good news is that most brokerage firms now offer a certain number of ETFs commission-free. You should consider these carefully, as saving on commissions can be a big deal. The spread is the difference between where someone is willing to buy an ETF (or a stock) at and where someone is willing to sell. For instance, if an ETF is trading at $20/share, you might see that it has an “average spread” of “$0.01.” That means you can buy the ETF for $20.01, but you can only sell it for $20.00. Another ETF might show an average spread of “$0.25,” which means you have to buy the ETF for $20.25, but you can only sell it for $20.00. The smaller the spread, the better. Lastly, it’s smart to use good basic trading practices. In general, you should consider using limit orders which are instructions to buy or sell securities at a specific price or better. But remember, if your limit is set to something unrealistic, or if the market’s moving quickly, you’ll need to monitor and adjust your limits to make sure you get your trade executed and you get the price you want – or better. So let’s review a few key points when it comes to trading ETFs: • Remember commissions. • Look at the spread. • Consider using limit orders. ETFs now make up about a quarter of all the volume on the New York Stock Exchange, so plenty of investors are trading ETFs. With a little care and effort, you can too! Questrade Review | The Pros & Cons of Questrade Online Broker

13:01
GET $50 IN COMMISSION-FREE TRADES - https://www.questrade.com/QBAFFL50T102?refid=ayiice9l Today we'll be reviewing the online investment broker, Questrade. Questrade - https://www.questrade.com?refid=ayiice9l 📈 Stock Market Course & Membership Group ➤ https://www.brandonbeavis.com I began using Questrade about 6 months ago and I want to share with you guys my experiences so far. We'll go over the pros & cons and see if it is a suitable online broker for you! Questrade is one of the most popular investment brokers in Canada. It boasts some of the lowest fees/commissions and allows ETF purchases for FREE! About 6 months ago, I set up a self-directed TFSA on Questrade and have been trading on it ever since. So far, I've really enjoyed using Questrade as my online broker. It has done everything that I've expected out of an online broker. The only negative I've experienced is the fact that you do have to start with a minimum of $1,000. That is their threshold and maybe for some new investors looking to invest in the stock market, this may be a little much to commit to. If you enjoyed the video please drop a like to support the channel! And be sure to subscribe to Brandon Beavis Investing for more investing videos!

The ONLY Vanguard ETF You Need (Best Index Fund 2019) 🏆

08:20
🔴 *VIP Membership Group* 🔴 View my portfolio & every single trade I make! Join now ► http://bit.ly/2Gk9JfW The Vanguard ETF VOO Index Fund is the Best ETF in 2019 - hands down. Vanguard has opened a new avenue for investors to get involved with the stock market, with relatively minimal risk through diversification but gives you the opportunity to earn 7-10% annually on your money. 🔴 *VIP Membership Group - * 🔴 View my portfolio & every single trade I make! Join now ► http://bit.ly/2Gk9JfW Traditionally, if you wanted to invest in the broader market like the S&P 500, you would have to invest in a Mutual Fund. However mutual funds have a lot of negatives and issues. They are a clunky product and difficult to follow and understand, they are not easy to buy or sell, and worst of all - they charge large management fees - usually in the range of 1% to 3%. Typically for a Mutual Fund, you work with a financial adviser to pick out "the best fund for you" - but in reality, you're picking out the best fund for them as they get a commission depending on what fund you end up making an investment in. Those high management fees are fees that they get a cut out of - so they will almost always push mutual fund products onto you even if it isn't the best investment for you. What I also don't like about Mutual Funds like I mentioned, is that when you want to buy it, it usually takes a day or two to process. Same with selling it - and in this day and age - there's no reason to go down that route at all! This is where ETF's come in to save the day - specifically VOO. ETF's provide you the same exposure (or better) than a mutual fund can, but offer much less management fees - saving you hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands over your investment career. ETF's are able to be traded just like stocks - you can buy and sell them at any time that the market is open, and you instantly have exposure to the ETF. This ETF we're talking about today, VOO ETF, is one that Vanguard offers and is one that I believe is the best ETF for any investor because the management fee is 0.04%, it has enough liquidity that you can buy/sell at any time, and it's a simple product that tracks the S&P 500. If you believe the top 500 companies in the US will succeed and grow even bigger over the long term, there's no better investment on that bet than to go with VOO. Now, VTI has also come as a close runner up to this - which is another ETF offered by Vanguard. VTI encompasses the total market, and gives you exposure to something like 2000 stocks - including small caps, medium caps, and large cap stocks. If you feel that the exposure to the S&P 500 isn't enough, and you want exposure to all companies in the US that are publicly traded, the Vanguard VTI ETF is the way to go - as this also only offers a management fee of 0.04% - absolutely amazing. I hope this clears things up on why ETF's are a better investment tool than Mutual Funds, and I hope this video helps save you even $1 - because that is my goal here - to save you money! I also have a very interesting story to share of a recent visit that I had with my local bank and financial adviser. One-Decision Asset Allocation ETFs (VCIP/VCNS/VBAL/VGRO/VEQT | XBAL/XGRO)

10:27
Being a DIY ETF investor is not particularly hard, but up until recently, it was not particularly easy, either. Back in 2017, the simplest portfolio around was Robb Engen’s four-minute portfolio, which consists of only two equity ETFs. If you wanted to reduce your equity exposure you would have had to buy a third ETF for bond exposure. Three ETFs is pretty simple, but it still requires some thinking for rebalancing and some discipline to rebalance into whatever asset class is down at the time. All of that changed when Vanguard launched their asset allocation ETFs last year. I’m Ben Felix, associate portfolio manager at PWL Capital. I just borrowed $30,000 on margin to invest in the stock market with my Questrade account.

11:57
Even though the markets are crashing I have reasons to believe that this is a significant buying opportunity and so I have borrowed $30,000 from my Questrade margin account. In this video I explain why I think this is a good time. I don't believe this to be the absolute market bottom but I do believe that we are very close. I show economic indicators that we aren't entering a recession and I look at seasonal and cyclical patterns that may suggest where we are going. Questrade''s current interest rates for margin trading of US stocks is about 8.75% for amounts less than $100K, so I don't want to hold the position too long. ===================================================== Welcome to Real Life Trader. NORBERT GAMBIT on Questrade - Avoid Forex Fees!

05:56
Use Norbert Gambit to avoid conversion fees when buying, selling, trading, and investing in stocks. In this video I show canadians using CAD how to avoid conversion fees when trading stocks in USD using Norbert Gambit. This is a popular method supported by most canadian brokers to help you convert your Canadian Dollars (CAD) to US Dollars (USD) without paying any additional conversion fees when trading stocks and investing in the stock market. Many brokers will charge you anywhere from 1-3% or more to buy US stocks on the NYSE or NASDAQ directly with your Canadian Dollars (CAD) but by using Norbert Gambit, you can get around this. I outline 5 easy steps which shouldn't take you more than a couple minutes to do which will in turn save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over your investing career. 🔴 *VIP Membership Group* 🔴 View my portfolio & every single trade I make! HOW TO USE A MARGIN ACCOUNT WITH QUESTRADE

17:22
So I decided to open a margin account with questrade while I wait to receive the Amex checks for balance transfers. I want to take advantage of these discount prices on the stock market, and since I dont have the liquidity or the funds, I will borrow money to buy stocks or invest it on the stock market. This is definitely risky and I dont recommend it but I will take the risk. I will open a margin account because it will allow me to borrow money from the broker and invest it and keep the profits of the borrowed money, while paying interest on the borrowed money. The same is true with losses unfortunately, if a stock drops, then I might owe money I dont have so very risky. So here are the benefits and risks associated with a margin account. I will also answer the question, what is a margin account. ***SUBSCRIBE*** https://www.youtube.com/c/ShihabsBlog?sub_confirmation=1 ***Get between $25 and $250 back when you open a Trading Account with Questrade using this Referral code 596714525378804 http://www.questrade.com/ *** ***Message me here for any questions*** http://shihabsblog.com/contact-me/ Happy Investing!!! ***How to open a Questrade account*** https://youtu.be/uOKedAW-VXI ***check out my personal blog*** www.shihabsblog.com ***Get your incomes taxes filed by a CPA in less than 24 hours and without leaving the comfort of your home*** http://shihabsblog.com/contact-me/ ***BONUS, Tangerine is giving 50$ just for opening an account if you use referral code 39138408S1*** www.tangerine.ca ***Consulting call $50 per hour*** Investing or income taxes ***add me on instagram*** https://www.instagram.com/shihabs_blog/?hl=en ***Get the coolest Amex card with no annual fee*** https://goo.gl/ZzLdrg ***Compare credit cards in Canada*** https://goo.gl/bkVwBY ***Best place to book flights*** https://goo.gl/tnx3U1 ***Best place to book hotels*** https://goo.gl/5Py8Py https://goo.gl/oJSzAJ ***5$ off your first Uber ride*** https://goo.gl/9mqfYT -TAGS- how to use a margin account with questrade what is a margin account what is margin how to use a margin account benefits of a margin account risks with a margin account how to trade with a margin account how to trade with a margin account on questrade margin account questrade

HOW TO TRADE ON THE STOCK MARKET CIBC INVESTOR'S EDGE

22:53
So, how to avoid the risks of investing in the stock market? Here is the strategy that I apply. I only invest in big name companies that I strongly believe are not going to disappear (Facebook, Google, Enbridge, Royal Bank, Exxon, Tesla, Ford, GM, etc…). I have fair goals that I try to stick to without being greedy. So I watch these big name companies, and I wait for the stock price to drop for whatever reason. I don’t really care what the reason is because there is always a reason that makes the stock price drop and another reason that makes the stock price go up. It has always been like that, up and down, up and down. Sometimes, stock price drops without a reason, or a justifiable reason, and the media tries very hard to give a reason, but in reality we all know doesn’t make any sense. At the end of the day, if you look at the chart of a stock, you will see that it goes up then it goes down, goes up then goes down. So why not buy the stock when it goes down and sell it when it goes up? So this is the strategy I TRY to apply as best as I can. This is what allows me to make between 10% and 20% per year on my invested money. Happy Investing!!! Best ETFs on Robinhood 2019 (For Millennials) 💚

05:57
The BEST ETFs for Robinhood Investors 2019? All Robinhood investor invest in these top 6 ETF's on the Robinhood Platform. ETFs (index funds) for Robinhood 2019 is the most popular millennial ETF picks for 2019 on Robinhood App. 6) QQQ Coming in at Number 6 is a very popular ETF in general when it comes to Tech stocks. It's no secret that Robinhood investors are mostly millennial, and it's no secret that millennial love tech stocks. And rightfully so - the QQQ has returned investors almost 100% in the last 5 years, and it gives you exposure to some of the biggest tech names like Apple, Google, Microsoft, and more. This ETF tracks the NASDAQ exchange, minus any financial stocks. So how many investors on Robinhood hold QQQ? 13,950. 5) BOTZ So this was a surprising one to me - but when I break it down and think about it, it does make sense. BOTZ is a Robotics & Artificial Intelligence - again - an ETF that is focused around Tech. But the biggest reason Robinhood investors like to hold BOTZ is for exposure to NVDA, because that is seen as one of the main companies to lead AI and Robotics in the future. And since BOTZ ETF currently trades under $20 a share, vs NVDA at almost $150 a share, it makes sense because many RH investors can't afford the price of NVDA. Looking @ BOTZ performance over the last 5 years, it's returned investors just under 30%. Not that great when compared to QQQ, but not bad either. Keep in mind this is an ETF betting on the future - so these gains may only be realized in 5 years or more. So how many investors on Robinhood hold BOTZ? 16,932. 4) VTI The is one of the most popular Vanguard ETF's for investors, but surprisingly it doesn't make the top 3 here at Robinhood! VTI is an ETF that tracks the "Total US Stock Market" as its name implies - so it gives investors exposure to 3514 total stocks! VTI is known as an ETF for the average investor as a "Set and forget" investment -and over the last 5 years has returned investors 45% - not too shabby! So how many investors on Robinhood hold VTI? 23,546. 3) SPY Coming in at #3 is SPY - which tracks the S&P 500. SPY is a popular ETF for traders, because it's extremely liquid and you can trade options on this as well to amplify your gains. It tracks the S&P, so it has just over 500 stocks, and is another 'set and forget' investment. SPY has returned investors slightly more than the VTI fund we just looked at, coming in at 48% returns in the last 5 years. Again, good returns from a set and forget investment however the Management fees are more compared to VTI. So how many investors on Robinhood hold SPY? 32,749. 2) MJ What do millennial like more than tech stocks? That's right - GREEN stocks! The Alternative Harvest ETF takes the 2nd spot and it is made up of some of the most popular stocks in this sector (Cronos (CRON), Aurora Cannabis (ACB) and Canopy Growth (CGC)). This has returned investors just under 40% - however it's only been on the market since late 2015 - so the sample size is a bit shorter than other ETFs covered. Nonetheless, pretty good returns - but this may be topping the list for most volatile ETF in the top 6. So how many investors on Robinhood hold MJ? 35,862. 1) VOO (Watch the video!) The #1 should come as no surprise to you, especially if you've watched my #1 vanguard ETF video. That's right - VOO is the #1 most popular ETF on Robinhood, and rightfully so. This is known as THE best ETF when it comes to tracking the S&P 500 - with it's dividend and low MER. It has returned investors 49% over the last 5 years, coming in as the 2nd best return on this list, only behind the tech heavy QQQ. So how many investors on Robinhood hold VOO? 40,918. #ETF #IndexFunds #Robinhood #PositiveInvesting 🔴 *VIP Membership Group - 67% OFF!* 🔴 View my portfolio & every single trade I make! This is a sample lecture taken from my Canadian online investing course called the Personal Pension Academy. In this online course, I teach people how to manage their own money and start building true wealth. My goal in this course is to help investors do 2 things. 1. Completely eliminate or drastically reduce management fees (including mutual fund MER and management fees) that they may not even know they are paying and eating into their wealth 2. Generate a second pay cheque from their savings and/or investments so that money is deposited into their account monthly. I teach people to tap into the potential gold mine that lies hidden in their savings. This lecture is Step 3 of my 8 step process on getting your finances in order to start investing in some solid dividend and income paying stocks and securities. There are 3 types of accounts in Canada that you can set up in order to start managing and investing your own money. - Direct Trading account - RRSP Account (registered account) - TFSA Account (registered account All of these accounts can be opened at a discount brokerage including those offered by the 6 large chartered banks in Canada. They will be need to be set up as self-directed meaning that you have to manage it yourself. In these types of accounts, there are no management fees, just commissions on the purchase and sale of securities. In the Personal Pension Academy, our goal is to buy stocks and other income paying securities that will generate a monthly or quarterly cash flow. My philosophy is that we all go to work for a pay cheque, and our investments should as well. Unfortunately mutual funds do no accomplish this because of the high management fees and mutual fund's MER. You have to invest your money directly if you are going to be successful. Here are some other resources to help you on your way to building wealth and becoming a successful investor. Best Stock Broker Canada 2019 📊

06:49
What is the Best Stock Broker in Canada 2019? Which Canadian Stock Broker is the Best? Believe it or not - Canadians also invest in the stock market - and there's only 1 broker that I can stand behind, Questrade. I believe Questrade is the BEST stock broker in Canada for 2019 - and if you want to learn exactly why I choose Questrade and why I would recommend it, I go over that in this video. Make sure to sign up for Questrade using my link to get $50 in FREE Commissions - no strings attached - http://bit.ly/2ZjQLi6 Questrade is an independent broker, that has been serving Canadians for 20 years now and has grown to become the #1 Independent broker in Canada. They offer 2 main services - Self-directed investing or Questwealth portfolios. I would not be looking at their "Questwealth" option personally, as this involves them actively managing your account for you and charging you fees - including a 0.25% management fee on top of any ETF fees you purchase. The self-directed account is just that - an account where you can go and manage your investments by yourself, for yourself. This means you decide when you want to buy or sell a certain stock or ETF! So what does this Self-Directed Account entail? First off to open it, there's no account opening or closing fees, you can have a Margin/Cash account, TFSA, or RRSP account - and not pay any account fees (some brokers charge a quarterly fee for this), they have some of the lowest commissions for trades in the country, and - if you are just buying ETF's - they are free to buy - but the caveat here which they don't mention is that they do charge you commission to sell. Opening an account is very simple - you just select what types of account you want. I have opened a TFSA, RRSP, and Margin account all without any issues whatsoever. Then boom - you go through a few steps, fill in your info, pick a user ID, and then you can start to find your account. Now there is a drawback - and that is you need a minimum of $1000 to fund an account to actually start trading with Questrade. If you have under $1000 - you may want to look at alternatives. Now assuming you have $1000 to fund, it's simple - you transfer it from your bank, or you can transfer funds from another institution, and depending on the type of account, it could take a week, or up to a few weeks - so be patient! If your transferring money directly from your bank to the account, I've found it takes 1-2 days MAX. So I guess that beings us to the negatives of Questrade - which is important to understand. Like I just mentioned, you don't have instant access to your funds - so if your actively waiting for an opportunity to transfer in cash to buy a stock you need to account for the 1-2 days transfer in, at least in my experience. You need a minimum of $1000 to invest. And although they are one of the cheapest brokers in Canada, they still are expensive when comparing to apps the US has like Robinhood or Webull - which is free. They charge a minimum of $4.95 per trade, up to a max of $9.95 for commissions. ETF's cost the same to sell. And options are $9.95 base, plus $1 per contract you buy or sell. So the fees can add up here if you plan to actively trade. But there's 2 big reasons I love using Questrade personally. The first is their chat support - it's been phenomenal, and they are very responsive and available to help which I think is crucial for an online broker. And the other is that they support Norbert Gambit. If you don't know what this is, watch this video here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT7MxL3Oj8M) but essentially, if you want to invest in US stocks as a Canadian, you need to use Norbert Gambit method to saving that additional conversion fee that every other broker charges you. The savings add up! What broker do you use in Canada? Let me know in the comments! #Questrade #Broker #PositiveInvesting 🔴 *VIP Membership Group* 🔴 View my portfolio & every single trade I make! BEST STOCK BROKER CANADA 2018

06:24
🔴 *VIP Membership Group* 🔴 View my portfolio & every single trade I make! Join now ► http://bit.ly/2Gk9JfW Best Stock Broker Canada 2018 is here to help you pick the right stock broker for you. I made a Best Broker of 2018 for my USA viewers, but my Canadian viewers don't have the same options and I cover ALL your options here in this video. So #1 we have Questrade Inc. Pros: -Excellent customer service -Decent Mobile app -no account fees -Easy to open and setup account -Commission of 1c/share with 4.95/trade minimum and 9.99 max Cons: -minimum balance of $1000 -24.95/quarter inactivity fee if you hold less than $5000 -Not good for charting or research unless you purchase the trading platform Questrade is probably the best broker available to Canadians - there are fees for lower account balances but they have a competitive commission structure and excellent customer service. The #2 pick is QTrade. Pros: -Good option for young investors -$7.75/trade -under $25000 account balance, quarterly fee is waived -Requirements: -An offer for investors aged 18 to 30 -To qualify, simply add $50 or more a month to a Qtrade Investor account by setting up automatic pre-authorized contributions. Cons: -Not available to everyone -Need to keep adding in $50 a month to be eligible, but can't exceed $25000 to still use commission structure QTrade is a good option for those that want to get started in investing but don't meet Questrade's $1000 minimum. The no quarterly fees under 25000 account is good to keep more savings in your pocket. However once your account grows to close to 25000, I would consider switching to Questrade. ☀️ Referral Tools ☀️ TipRanks (Stock Analysis Tool) ► http://bit.ly/2Gsml5L Webull (Free Stock) ► http://bit.ly/2VS0QR2 M1 Finance (Fractional Shares) ► http://bit.ly/2W4vw1v Questrade (Canadian Broker) ► http://bit.ly/2ZjQLi6 TradingView (Best Charting Tool) ► http://bit.ly/2vaddw9 ☀️ FREE Facebook Group ☀️ Join the Positive Investing Facebook Group ► http://bit.ly/2v6UfGM Don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE to support the channel - it means a lot to me!
