Welcome to Top10Archive! We live in a day and age where nuclear power is becoming a common need for daily life. In 2011, the Key World Energy Statistics found that 10% of the world's electricity was provided via nuclear power plants; but what, ultimately, fuels these plants to provide power? All across the globe, uranium mines gather the natural resource used as the basis of all nuclear power; and while many countries contribute to the mining of uranium, these 10 countries provide the highest amount per year, based on tonnes mined in 2013. World's Deepest Mine - Gold Alchemy

04:51
South Africa's TauTona mine, real life alchemy, and Halicephalobus Mephisto. Footage from the 2012 documentary, "Down to the Earth's Core". We have travelled into space and looked deep into the universe's depths, but the world beneath our feet remains unexplored and unseen. Now, that's about to change. For the first time in one epic unbroken shot, we embark on an impossible mission - using spectacular computer generated imagery to smash through three thousand miles of solid rock, and venture from our world into the underworld and on to the core of the Earth itself. It's a journey fraught with danger. One thousand feet down we find ourselves inside one of the planet's most volatile places - the San Andreas Fault. Caught between two huge rock slabs, we watch as stress builds and then releases. It unleashes an earthquake and blasts us on towards rivers of molten rock, explosive volcanoes, tears in the Earth's crust and giant tornadoes of liquid metal. But for every danger, there are wonders beyond imagination. Four hundred feet below the surface, a three hundred million year old fossilized forest, with every leaf and every piece of bark perfectly preserved. At one thousand feet down we enter a cave of giant crystals, glistening in deadly 122 degree heat. More than two miles underground we find buried treasure - gold and gems. Deeper still there are valuable resources - salt, oil, coal and iron. And over one hundred miles down we see the sparkling beauty of diamonds. As we descend we piece together our planet's extraordinary story. We rewind time to discover how prehistoric forests became modern-day fuel. 1700 feet down a layer of rock reveals the extraordinary story of the dinosaurs' cataclysmic death. We watch stalactites form and gold grow before our eyes. The deeper we travel into the underworld the more we understand our world above the surface. A bigger picture takes shape - a cycle of destruction and creation, driven by the core that sustains our dynamic planet and makes the Earth the only planet with life in a seemingly lifeless universe. Until, finally, three thousand miles down, we reach the core. Inside it lie the secrets of life as we know it - the magnetic force field that protects life on Earth from the sun's deadly rays, the ancient heat source that keeps our planet alive. Down to the Earth's Core brings the latest science together with breathtaking computer generated imagery. The result is an unmissable journey into an extraordinary world - full of dangers, wonders and secrets. And it's all down there, beneath our feet, right now waiting to be discovered.

What if Antarctica MELTED?

07:35
A remake an old video of mine, hope this answered some burning curiosities! And no, there are not aliens or Nazi bunkers under the ice... that I know of. I forgot to mention that under the Antarctic treaty, mining is TECHNICALLY prohibited on Antarctic, but that expires in around 30 years, and it's uncertain whether or not it will be renewed. Plus this is all theoretical anyway and would take place over many hundreds of years, if not thousands. Certain clips provided by Videvo. Music: https://www.bensound.com

Gold 'mother lode' worth $15 million unearthed in Western Australia

02:14
Underground miners in outback Western Australia have unearthed rare gold specimens which geologists are calling a "once-in-a-lifetime discovery". Workers at the Beta Hunt mine near the small town of Kambalda, 630 kilometres east of Perth, have brought more than $15 million worth of gold specimens to the surface in just four days. The gold-encrusted rocks were found about 500 metres below the surface in an area just three metres wide and three metres high. South Africa's Illegal Gold Mines

10:37
In the 1970s, South Africa was the world's most prolific exporter of gold. Over the years, industrial decline has seen widespread closures of the mines across the country. However, Johannesburg sits on the biggest gold basin ever discovered. It's perhaps not surprising that many of these abandoned mines have seen a recent boom in illegal mining activity. Everyday, hundreds of illegal gold miners, known as Zama Zamas, descend kilometers deep beneath the surface. The miners often spend weeks underground, toiling away at the country's untapped gold reserves. Observers have suggested that illegal mining is now so widespread, black-market gold arguably supports the communities once subsistent on the very same mines they worked in before they shut down. The lack of policing in the mines has seen the practice go on largely unabated. However, in the absence of law enforcement, the extensive network of abandoned mines beneath the region has become an arena to deadly gang warfare between rival factions. VICE News visited illegal mines near Johannesburg, to meet the Zama Zamas risking life and limb everyday in the violent struggle for South Africa's illegal gold. While very few leaders were beheaded in the course of this one, it changed the lives of more people more dramatically than any of the political revolutions we've discussed. So, why did the Industrial Revolution happen around 1750 in the United Kingdom? Coal. Easily accessible coal, it turns out. All this, plus you'll finally learn the difference between James Watt and Thomas Newcomen, and will never again be caught telling people that your blender has a 900 Newcomen motor. ASMR, Soft Spoken Factorio 01

01:02:24
A calm, quiet, contemplative let's play. ASMR, soft spoken, slow paced, relaxed, chill. All that good stuff! Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories. You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. In the beginning you will find yourself chopping trees, mining ores and crafting mechanical arms and transport belts by hand, but in short time you can become an industrial powerhouse, with huge solar fields, oil refining and cracking, manufacture and deployment of construction and logistic robots, all for your resource needs. However this heavy exploitation of the planet's resources does not sit nicely with the locals, so you will have to be prepared to defend yourself and your machine empire. Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio's ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of Scenarios. If you don't find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ✼ Youtube: www.youtube.com/sirtristan ✼ Twitter: @CapeofSuperman ✼ Twitch: www.twitch.tv/tristanundone ✼ Patreon: www.patreon.com/sirtristan

The Most Radioactive Places on Earth

11:18
Who on Earth is exposed to the most ionizing radiation? Check out Audible: http://bit.ly/AudibleVe I'm filming a documentary for TV about how Uranium and radioactivity have shaped the modern world. It will be broadcast in mid-2015, details to come. The filming took me to the most radioactive places on Earth (and some places, which surprisingly aren't as radioactive as you'd think). Chernobyl and Fukushima were incredible to see as they present post-apocalyptic landscapes. I also visited nuclear power plants, research reactors, Marie Curie's institute, Einstein's apartment, nuclear medicine areas of hospitals, uranium mines, nuclear bomb sites, and interviewed numerous experts. Notes about measuring radiation: Sieverts are a measure of 'effective dose' - that means they measure the biological impact of the energy transferred to tissues from radiation. Obviously I owe a debt to the fantastic chart made by xkcd, which inspired my visual approach to this video. https://xkcd.com/radiation/ DOSES MAY VARY The level of radiation varies widely around the world depending mainly on altitude and geology (excluding nuclear accidents). Estimates of particular doses also vary. All numbers reported in this video should be taken as order of magnitude only. The most contentious claim may be that smokers receive the highest dose of ionizing radiation. This is not a whole body dose, but a dose to the lungs as specified in the video. Why is the US playing the CHINA, RUSSIA card over the ARCTIC? - KJ VIDS

07:50
The US, although, being a coastal state has not been a major player in the Arctic. The Trump administration has decided to change this situation. This move come in a time of deeper Russo-Chinese cooperation in the region, as exemplified by the Yamal LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) project. The Arctic Council is the main institution dealing with the governance and the regional cooperation around the Arctic Ocean. It gathers 8 States as permanent members: Canada, Denmark, the USA, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. In addition, six indigenous people groups have Permanents Participants status. Zimbabwe's Blood Diamond Killing Fields

Deadly Diamonds (2009): Could Zimbabwe be suspended from the global diamond trade in the aftermath of the massacre at the Marange diamonds fields? With shocking evidence now uncovered, Zimbabwe’'s diamond trade faces suspension. "We were told ‘here are the guns, sitting in the truck, do you want to stay?’" says Andrew Cranswick, CEO of the mining company who owns the rights to mine diamonds in Marange. After his company was evicted, the Marange fields were opened up to the people and tens of thousands of Zimbabweans came to dig, paying the police a commission. Yet the police didn'’t always play fair - "$15 million worth of diamonds were confiscated", says one former miner – and soon the police were replaced by Mugabe’s own military. "Mugabe needed a way to buy the loyalty of the army" says Ken Roth, "the military were ordered to kill". In the first week of November, helicopter gunships launched a massacre on the Marange diamond fields. Evidence has been collected of 200 deaths. Those who weren’'t killed were raped or crippled. "They told us if we wanted to go home we had to sleep with the men", says one woman, "the soldiers watched and laughed". Next month, the Kimberley process, the international body charged with stopping trade in conflict diamonds, will decide whether Zimbabwe should be suspended. Yet with many Western governments involved in Zimbabwe'’s diamond trade, a former delegate of the Kimberley process believes this deadly business may yet be protected. Australian Outback If you think you got what it take to survive in the harsh australian desert, then you dare you to try to live in the Australian outback for a few weeks on your own and see how it goes. The center of eastern australia, seems to completely lack resources unless you’re looking for snakes, toxic chemicals, or uranium. This is home to Lake Disappointment, which really doesn’t seem to inviting. Here in this photo we see a that was once used to store uranium, left in the outback. (What Photo?) So you really you shouldn’t get your hopes up about living here. The lake is rather salty and someone is probably disappointed :( Some people tried to settle in wittenoom Australia when an extremely large amount of blue asbestos was discovered. This however, didn’t turn out so great and didn’t know exactly how extremely toxic blue asbestos truly was. 4. Montserrat A small little island in the Caribbean would seem like a great place to inhabit with plenty of lush forests and black sand beaches. But the positive things about Montserrat seem to end there and it’s home to an extremely active volcano, making a majority of it completely uninhabitable! The capital city of Plymouth was completely destroyed after a volcanic eruption happened here and you can see the destruction for yourself on google maps! Other places like richmond hills to the north were abandoned shortly after. It’s certainly not a welcoming view, seeing a volcano steaming from gases relentlessly from the peak. Here in this photo from the 1990’s we see the capital of the British overseas territory, completely draped in ash. To this day, the area surrounding Soufriere Hills, is covered in sharp volcanic glass and not the fine white sands you’d prefer to see in the Caribbean. Very few have returned to the island after the eruption but they should be fearing for their lives. 3. Siberia (Pronounced Wrong) If you dare to venture off into the far east of Russia, you will come across some of the most brutal conditions on the face on the planet. The siberian winter is no joke folks and it has the power to turn you into a popsicle in a matter of hours. The population density of this massive chunk of land is about 3 inhabitants per kilometer making it the most sparsely populated region in the world and for good reason. You certainly do not want to end up in a work camp here! The green forests might seem inviting, but you can safely bet your money, they will completely covered in snow by the time october comes. Some villages manage to reach temperatures -67 degrees celsius or -89 degrees fahrenheit! If the extreme cold doesn’t get you, a bear most likely will! Some claim that the road that while constructing the M56 highway through siberia, it earned the nickname “the highway of bones” due to the sheer amount of lives lost from the frigid conditions here. 2. Danakil Depression We mentioned this place briefly in our most color places video but this is seriously not a place you want to move to! Ethiopia is already a difficult place to live and then you add places like Dallol to the mix and you wonder how anyone can actually survive here! With an average high of 121 degrees in July, people who come to this region just want to get a few things and get the heck out! There used to be a settlement in this location but it was abandoned after mining a few tons of salt. The landscapes of this place are like something from an entirely different world. The Dallol sulphur springs emit a horrendous odor and make up part of Ethiopia’s Danakil Depression. Possibly the lowest and hottest place on earth, the water below the earth is extremely salty, toxic and hot. You can probably make a trip here to check it out but don’t plan on staying long! 1 Antarctica Antarctica is the only continent on Earth that has no permanent residence and it’s completely uninhabitable. No towns, no cities, no commercial industries just a few scientific research stations were people some how manage to tough out the extremely harsh conditions for a few weeks then get the heck out! Here in this photo we see a few heavily vehicles left at Oasis Station originally built by the Soviets. If the Russians can’t handle the cold no one can, except for the penguins! Trying to establish any kind of base here is nearly impossible and there’s still equipment left over from those who dared settling on this continent. Not only is it cold, it’s also the the windiest place on earth on average. While there is some fresh water here, it’s all frozen or buried under miles of ice! Only 11 people have actually been born on antarctica but don’t expecting it to become permanently populated anytime soon.

ТОГДА ПОСЕТИ РУССКИЙ КАНАЛ, БЛИН!: https://goo.gl/rcissV The Game is so damn cool! Canada looks just like my mothreland [email protected] Game information: The Long Dark is a first-person open world survival simulation video game in development by Canadian company Hinterland for multiple platforms. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013. The first part of Season One of The Long Dark's Story Mode will release in Q2 of 2016, with the rest of the season being released episodically over the remainder of 2016. Following a period of alpha access exclusive to backers of the crowdfunding campaign, a version of the game featuring only its sandbox-style survival mode was released on Steam Early Access in September 2014. Early impressions from critics were generally favourable, but noted the incomplete nature of the game. Leif Johnson, writing for PC Gamer in June 2014 felt that the game's small unchanging map rewarded route memorisation whereas the game was most engaging when allowing the player to discover its systems. Andy Kelly, writing for the same publication a month later, praised the atmosphere, highlighting the art style, sound design and lighting. Kelly felt that the game's "focus on atmosphere and environmental survival" made it "[stand] out in an increasingly crowded genre". At GameSpot, Shaun McInnis had similar thoughts, seeing that while the survival genre was becoming ever more crowded, The Long Dark was "one of the few games in this genre focused on capturing the solitary wonder of fighting to staying alive in the brutal wilderness". John Walker, writing at Rock, Paper, Shotgun in August 2014, enjoyed the game and found it "impressively full of things to do", but felt that the accelerated passage of time detracted from the realism. In an early access review for GameSpot in October 2014, Nick Capozzoli too criticised unrealistic systems, noting that one should not need "a dozen energy bars and a pound of venison to sustain yourself day-to-day" and that "a crowbar [shouldn't] lose half its integrity after being used to pry open a couple lockers". Instead of stretching his resources as a survivalist would, he felt "like an insatiable force that roves through the environment, picking it clean." Like Johnson, he criticised the limited area given to explore. With an update later that October, Hinterland doubled the size of the playable area, and expanded it again in February 2015 to bring the size of the game world to 25 km/sq. Wired writer Matt Peckham labelled The Long Dark a "troubling yet beautiful gem", and joined IGN columnist Lucy O'Brien in recognizing the game's beautiful artistic vision, with O'Brien noting that "Developer Hinterland has gone to great lengths to make the world itself a beautiful place to explore". In a 2015 interview with Creative Director Raphael van Lierop about The Long Dark's launch on Xbox One, Gameranx's Holly Green addressed the unique nature of the game's survival mechanics, writing it was "one of the first pure survival games on console, separating the genre from its horror roots and taking its themes of minimalist resource management to their most logical conclusion".

Beneath Black Skies Trailer

01:03
Australia's largest industrial disaster. A History of coalmining in the Illawarra. The Illawarra, South of Sydney, once held a reputation for the dustiest and gassiest coal mines in Australia. In 1887 the miners at the Old Bulli Colliery were on strike to better conditions and increase their pay, but a train load of 'scab' (non union) labour was being brought to the Old Bulli Colliery to replace striking miners. It was the women who stopped the labour getting to the pits as they stood in front of a moving train and with their babies pleaded for the non union men to return home... two months later the Bulli pit blew up killing 81 men and boys. How did Australia's first mineral export, coal, shape the men and women who lived the mining life... beneath black skies? This remarkable history of the area is told through the miner's, their wives, their unions, mining historians, and the mining official's perspectives. Narrated by Australian actor David Field with a striking musical score, and dramatic re-enactments of the late 19th and early 20th Century, this film is a community treasure of Australian significance.

Officials said Monday a Chinese navy survey ship will start mapping the seabed off the west Australian coast this week as part of the latest phase in the search for the Malaysian airliner. Australia's Joint Agency Coordination Center said in a statement Chinese, Australian and Malaysian authorities met at the west coast port city of Fremantle and agreed that the Chinese ship Zhu Kezhen will conduct a bathymetric survey of the Indian Ocean floor as directed by Australian air crash investigators, . http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/3d281c11a96b4ad082fe88aa0db04305/Article_2014-05-19-Malaysia-Plane/id-4e2d451fe5014c95a7e0db51eb9b7fc6 http://www.wochit.com
